  1. So I managed to get Ableton to record from Serato.

However, if I put a beat into Ableton on one track and then try to record some cuts via Serato over the top in a separate track, Ableton records both the beat and the cuts in that new track, rather than just the cuts.

I managed to fiddle with the settings and record just the cuts from Serato but at the expense of being able to hear the beat playing.

Similarly, I tried to set up the inputs in ABleton so that decks 1 and 2 record in separate tracks/channels but they seem to be both assigned to 5/6 which is the same channel in Ableton so they dont record separately.

The Reloop Elite manual is shite, hardly gives any detail on anything.

15 years ago all you had to do was connect your mixer to the line in on the computer and then ACID pro would record the input in a separate track. Fuck me this is hard work.

    Would an audio interface help?

Is there an idiot's guide to setting everything up anywhere? I feel so fucking dumb with all this.

  2. Thanks, but shouldnt be the laptop as I bought a new specialist music laptop from 3XS with no bloatwear.

I actually sorted the sound issue but I'm now having problems trying to record from Serato (via the Reloop Elite) into my DAW (Acid Pro). The only way I can find to do this by setting Serato to play out through the laptops internal speakers but when it does this there is a slight delay between that and the sound playing from the speakers connected to the mixer.

Maybe it's just ACID Pro being shit. Will give the Ableton demo a try this weekend...

  3. Fixed this now. Apparently the Elite has a utility menu that is accessible via holding down some buttons and tuning the mixer on. Had to then set the recording output as USB. Odd that this wasnt the default but good job it's sorted as I was about to launch the fucking thing at the wife.

  4. I'm currently set up with a laptop, serato, reloop elite and 2 x reloop rp8000 mk2s.

Laptop is connected to elite via USB.

Everything works fine in terms of playing music but I cannot record anything, it appears that there is no signal coming back into Serato and so it cannot record.

When I set up serato to record the record db meter remains completely flat even though music is playing through the virtual decks and out throught the elite to the speakers.

Ive been fucking around with this ages and cannot get it sorted.

I've ticked the "use laptop speakers" box in serato.

I've set playback device as reloop elite and realtek speakers - it made no difference

I've switched recording and input devices between realtek speakers, line in (Elite).

I donwloaded the virtual cable and messed around with that for a bit.

Its proper fucking me off as I need to be able to record from Serato, ideally straight into a DAW.

Cant find anything online to help.

    Any ideas?

I'm in the market for a Serato laptop (home use only) and had looked at the ones from Scan (even though their desktop building service wasn't great when I bought one years ago).

Then I was thinking I might try chancing it with a cheapy £500 job. How hard can it be to run Serato at home eh?

I think the main issue is latency through USB.

Having said that, you could probably find something with lowish latency in that price range as long as you only plan to use it for Serato. if you think you might start adding equipment/software, I would increase your budget.

  6. I have had exactly this same problem (think I posted about it on here before), after taking a 15 year break also.

I have the ortofon scratch carts on brand new reloop 8000s.

I thought it was the needles so managed to get some m447s and swapped them in.

Same problem - tone arm keeps moving left to right. I tried realigning, rebalancing and changing the angle of the headshell.

The latter seemed to work to a degree but it looks very unnatural now and it's probably wrecking my vinyl.

Really not sure what to do. Will try removing the weight plates and rebalancing as youve mentioned above.

  7. I was looking at this recently. I think one of the guys from DJworx.com was involved in its design/testing.

Seems like a good laptop for the money.

In the end I've decided to go with something better suite for production as well from scan.co.uk. They have a 3xs range, epcifically designed for production/Djing that are very well reviewed.

  8. I just recently got back into DJing after a long hiatus and have gone the Serato route with the new Reloop decks/Elite.

I got the Ortofon scratch needles but found them complete shit. Managed to get hold of some M447s which are loads better.

I can also recommend Soulseek (remember that?) for finding high quality downloads of common and obscure tracks.

  9. I've not had them long at all.

I'll give them some time to break in on a groove and see whats what.

    Cheers

Well, maxed out the weights and left them on and in the groove overnight for three nights. There is a bit of an improvement but not much.

I've been online to see what I'm doing wrong with the set up but cant seem to find out what the issue is. The pair I have just seem to skip a lot because of the excess lateral movement.

Anyone able to recommend good alternatives?

  10. I recently purchased some Ortofon Scratch carts and for some reason they are skipping like crazy.

I'm using them with brand new Serato control vinyl on new Reloop rp8000 mk2s.

    Skating - 0

    Height - 0

    Weight - 3.5

Tissue paper in the spindle to tighten things up.

The lateral movement on them is crazy, even when just cueing.

The lateral movement calms down when the weight is lightened but then it still skips like crazy because of lack of weight.

I've tried reversing the weight too but it makes no difference.

    Any ideas?
