So i just installed xwax on my old Sony Vaio using Ubuntu. I am having problems with the audio that i import into Xwax.
All the audio that i load on the deck is just a big block of white noise.
I tested all my files and they seem to play normal when i upload them into Reaper.
Was wondering if the audio files have to be a certain bit rate?
Any help would be awesome.

i actually go to my local plastic supplier in San Diego and cut my blanks out at home with giant scissors! im not Joking by the way!
And i actually have two Prestos. One a 6N and the other a k8.
I bought these way back in Ebay for really cheap. $250 for the K8 and $500 for the 6N. ive made my money back on both of them releasing diy 7s, 10 and weird shaped ones.
i before everyone was into releasing lathes.
You can have the plastic supplier cut the sheet of polycarbonate for you if your not into cutting the sheet yourself.

if we get lucky we will have people frustrated that don't know how to use them just because they didn't know how to change the needle or didn't have the patience to dial it in put them up on Ebay just like the crappy Vestax lathe .

i am sure people will find out what the material of the record blanks are and then you can just go to your local plastic supply place and buy a sheet and make your own.
I think the reason why they are charging $10 a blank is because they gotta make some loot to keep the phonocut business running.

The Person that's designing the cutting head and electronics (Flo Kaufmann) is a well known record cutter and designer of cutting heads. I am sure this is not a scam and its a real deal.
This is what he posted on the lathe trolls site:

so the thing is real and can be built. so this first machine is built and handcrafted by me and lots of other helfull hands.
for the moment is a beefed up kingston dubplatecutter with, i would say even better performing cutterhead than the kingston dubplatecutter had, a great mechanics and a state of the art bldc direct drive turntable. in a nice swiss made quality case 3mm alu case outside and finest mechanics.
done by designers and mechanical engineers who knows to do stuff like this. . i dont feel bad if some of you prefer the 1930ies presto's i can understand, but we are 2019 and there seems to be people who like stuff different.
so give them the freedom to do a lathe that looks 2019 and not 1930.
most of the inside cutting technology is nothing new for me, well prooved and tested and i know how to do.
challenge again was to make it useable for everbody. but to do it like this its qute a project.
please just take it as it is. and dont cry for features or whatever you can not find in the specs.
we have for almost everything a reason why its like this or not.
if you dont like it dont buy it and build your own. more fun to do. and this is why this forum exists.
if you have open questions ask and you might find an answer in the FAQ.
the most powerfull feature many of you might not even noticed.
the cutterhead is a cartridge.
you can theoretically dump a nice cutterhead if the stylus is broken or bad. of course the cartridge can be recycled or shipped back. but the nice thing is that you can upgrade and have different cartridges.
i mainly did this because i love to put a "HD-Vinyl ready sticker on the machine (sorry for bad jokes)
one intention is that it should be upgradeable and expandable. and super simple. we dont want to ask user to adjust stlus and groove adjustment.
so there might be one day a 78rpm mono cartridge with the right groove geometry and equalisation. whatever
for the user its nice to just buy a new cartridge. send the old back and click in the new one. all nice and good.
again. it takes away a lot of fun we all have with our pre-war and 50ies beauties....
as a start the 1k unit will most probabbly not be a same as neumann performing feedback cutterhead version. sorry.
but as most on this forum are happy with 1930 moving iron mono heads or speaker driven VR heads i guess we can easy bring
same or better quality on the entry model.
about the blank situation same as for printers. the blanks will partly pay the machine and will guarantee the best performance.
if you want to use your own blanks. go and buy an old lathe. buy a VR or whatever.
the PHONOCUT will recognize the original blanks and if using others (sure its hackable..everthing can be tricked) just the warranty will be gone.
very simple and fair enough. buyers will be noticed before and its up to everybody if he wants to safe money stay with DIY or use the PHONOCUT stuff.
dear lathetrolls. no danger for all your business or loosing value on your beloved presto or whatever.
its just a serious alternative to cut a record as simple as printing a sheet of paper out of your computer.
which was not the case so far. its also not killing the vinyl mastering business and and it wont be guilty for
disappearing pressing plants.
if you want an oil painting out of your favorite jpg image you dont expect that from your $99 inkjet printer.
so enjoy your nice old skool gear and if you are not one of the chosen lucky ones who have a neumann lathe or a presto in mint condition
or even better completly home built lathe there is just a chance to cut your own records at home, like most readers of this forum here.

The cut in on the upfaders remind me of scratching on the old Gemini scratch master fader.

Im playing this game! I like the Dark Souls series so I had to pick this up.
It is hard just like other games From Software but I like the challenge. I like the quickness and Deathblows.

i really dug all the Old Mowax trip hop stuff back in the day.
i still bump Dj Krush Meiso ,Kakusei and Strickly turntablised and some of the tracks off the Heads comps when i have my ipod on shuffle.
also that Prunes 12 they dropped was ill. i remember smoking blunts and scratching over those beats.
i also liked that they had Futura doing some of the artwork.

Man Rob swift is not that swift anymore.
I liked his old mixtapes back in the day. Even tho his cuts were not that great back then. Compared to like Babu's Comprehension & Melo d's Turnfable in which which they killed it on the cuts.
I feel like Rob is just a bitter old guy mad at how all the new generation of djs can evolve and pick up on technical scratching quicker.
I kinda lost respect for him from looking at all his online rants and so called knowledge dropping

I use the mpc 1000 jjos fx on some breaks but mostly i run my my stuff through guitar pedals because thats what i use when i perform live.
I reuse the same 808 bass hit all the time. I just pitch it differently or run it through a distortion.
For drum breaks off records i usually compress the hell out of them to make them all crunchy and hitting

I re use the same drums but i usually run them through filters or effects pedals to alter the sound.
I also try to program them differently as well.

Have you seen those videos of people cleaning the records with elmers glue? A friend of mine tried it out on a few 7"s and got some really good results from doing it.

I've now proved that audio (albeit quietly) comes through the cutting head with my iPhone and a hacked RCA cable. Now to find a suitable way to push audio properly through it to actually cut a record with audio. Small steps.
That is good news! To properly amplify the signal to the head use any audio amplifier with the wire speaker outputs.
Make sure to wire a 1 amp fast blow fuse inline the amp and cutting head. Thats there for protection just incase you send a signal thats too hot into the head. It will blow the fuse before burning out the head.

I have had my 1200s for along time. That matched up with a broken in M447 and that thing does not skip.
Ill stab, scissor , hydroplane and that needle wont jump.

This is how i installed the mini innofader on the pt01. I just used one screw and put some electrical tape under the fader to prevent any shorts.
It doesnt even move around and is stable.

No disrespect, but that is just a ton of words and nothing more, a lot of people have no interest in Facebook, if you have a product, tell us, if you know of a product, tell us.
I see this that and the other about fitting a Focus fader (Which you know i still love) but there are no instructions or kits or anything, and i agree, the Inno for £100 is madness.
I agree with Flexinoodle. Alot people dont have facebook me included. No disrespect to Focus i know your a OG in the fader game but
If you are trying to help the scratch community on evoling with the portablism thing shouldnt you be tinkering around with your focus fader to work with the pt01 or any portable turntable?
If you got something that works and is cheaper show us instead of keeping all top secret.

So here is my second test at cutting a scratch record. I had to adjust the bpm on audacity to 130.8 i might have to do a bit more adjusting on the bpms. but the record seems to handle some heavy cuts!

Hehe - the Holmes, Ric, has a 1000 with the XL screen and it's a thing of absolute beauty!To be honest, I can't ever imagine I'd get a new model MPC, but the more I think about it, the more I could see myself getting a 1000 before the year is out

Does anyone have a work around to making the sounds line up?
the formula is BPR X RPM.
choose an amount of beats you want per rotation. lets make it easy and say 4. so you want 4 BPR.
figure out your RPM of your lathe. lets say its 33.8 (but check first!) so you have 33.8RPM.
4 X 33.8 = 135.2.
so your project you make the sentence in should be 135.2bpm.
Goodlooking out Symatic! I will give it a try and see i that fixes it.
Flexinoodle, what kind of shank fits on the vestax head? If its a long shank sort of like the Presto and Fairchild heads you could experiment with some cheaper ones from ebay.
There is a seller from russia that sells long shank for $7 each

Thank you everyone for all the info on making a "skipless" scratch record. I had some success cutting one on plastc!
It tracks pretty well for my first try at making one.

After making that record. I decided to cut some more samples and noticed the sounds were not lining up.
I think my record lathe might be turning at a different speed then 33.3 rpm maybe at 33.8 or 34? I have a tacometer to check the speed but it might not be accurate.
Does anyone have a work around to making the sounds line up?
I was looking at the grooves of other "skipless" scratch records and i can see the sounds are lined up.
When i look at mine they sort of go in a spiral.
