  1. I mean, the counter argument to that is that mixing is boring and unfulfilling creatively because you're just playing other people's music. It's like learning how to play guitar and putting all your effort into cover songs when you could make your own song. So yes I think YOU (or other people who are more into mixing) would get bored of battling and not of DJing, but other people get bored of mixing and not of scratching/juggling/etc. I get your point and think it's completely valid but def subjective. Most of the debate and issues on this topic stem from 2 diff mindsets; the mostly DJs, and the mostly turntablists. Both overlap a ton, and both are gonna be completely right in arguing the validity and the art of mixing, and the validity of scratching/beat juggling. Some people DJ because they like playing other people's music, some people DJ because they wanna make music out of other people's music. So yea, obv people who are in it to mix and play music are going to see battling as pointless now because it's no longer a direct platform to becoming a club DJ, and obv people who aren't fulfilled by just playing other people's music are going to see that as pointless too. If the reason you DJ isn't to mix, battle, scratch, juggle, or whatever else, then it's probably going to seem pointless to you. However, I get endlessly pissed off by a common attitude found with most "turntablists" / "battle djs" thinking theyre also good club djs/mixers. The other way round never happens. I think its impossible to ask a "mix" DJ like Tiesto to juggle some raw funk break and do some triplets with the snare However i think its possible to ask a well known skilled battle DJ to mix 2 140 bpm trance tunes together using a sync button
  2. hhmmm says the guy who prob has a large collection of 80 and 90s vinyl
  3. i never lost to anyone as the vid got muted therefore deleted...you cannot lose a battle when you not in it for the voting you must be trolling, i dont believe youre that dumb and ignorant
  4. aren't you the one who organizes some of the DV battles? Or at least you take care of the voting right? Isnt that hypocritical when you dont see the point in a battle? hmmmmm how bizarre Nevermind i know youll never post a vid yourself behind the decks..you prob never did a gig either.
  5. mixing & scratching beats just mixing...of course only when the DJ can scratch as i quote the Egyptian Lover "What is a Dj if he can't scratch"
  6. lol the vid was removed before the voting started, nobody was voting when my vid was up and i got good responses so not sure why you are so scared to post a vid? just post a vid and lets see what you can do on 2 decks..its not pointless, i think more ppl here want to see the Steve in action lol
  7. the sound of the vid was muted by youtube thats why i deleted it..there were 2 claims on it..lol@you for ignoring the fact that some pop tunes simply are not allowed to upload on yt.
  8. ok lets post a vid and lets see who is the better mixer, 6 mins each, one take voting will be done for a week and after that the winner will be officially announced
  9. i didnt lose dummy, the vid was taken off by youtube so how could i have won when there was no vid to begin with? either youre trolling or just plain stupid, wich one is it? "I didnt lose dummy" - I'd say you're coming close to losing it right now, just like you lost a DJ battle to a 1 armed DJ. Who's that DJ that really does have 1 arm? Semtex isn't it? Perhaps we could sort out a battle between you guys to see who's the best mix DJ. Lightning surely can't strike twice. my vid wasnt in the battle as it was taken off due to copyright claims..has it ever occured to you that i might have won the battle if it wasnt taken off. It was taken off before the voting actually so how could i have lost when there was NO vid to vote for?

  11. You should PM Jeff and offer him some lessons. It'll only take you 24 hours to teach him too. Not easy enough for you to win though. the vid was taken off due to copyright claims (malcolm mclaren) i would be happy to battle anyone here..either mix or scratch..its not that hard steve to mix, maybe you were struggling back in the day cause you just couldnt blend 2 tracks together?
  12. these were 45s with irregular tempos...you should know that todays music is recorded with metronome and software is not the same as 70s and early 80s beats. i also pointed out that mixing with 45s is a bitch..thats why people invented the 12inch to make life a bit easier for DJs. jon is a telented guy, he can cut, backspin juggle and mix..i never said that it only takes one day to do what he does LMFAO!
  13. yeah i saw a couple of current Dj Cheese clips and he still scratches old skool hiphop besides the R&B he does on SC..doesnt matter..for him his 85 title was still the most rememorable moment he told in a radio interview and we will always remember him for his King Kut scratches..just like we will always remember DST for doing scratches for Herbie hancock. Sorry but i taught ppl how to mix..and most of them could pull it off it after a few hours..not saying everybody can but if you have some musical feeling and rhythm its pretty easy to learn
  14. You aware there are 2 DJ cheeses? are you sure youre talking about the one from Plainfield?
  15. whats so hard about mixing not to being able to learn in 1 day??? its not like you are having to drive a car or fly a plane innit? these DJs were not there to mix, just playing music song by song. So anybody in the world can DJ unless you are a retard or deaf and blind.
  16. thats was my whole point, anyone can DJ nowadays...it doesnt require much skill like for instance learning how to play the piano..if you cant play the piano nobody will book you..if you cant DJ chances are you still get gigs..ive have seen many DJs who couldnt even mix and still they got paid..they couldnt synq 2 songs together. So basically anybody can call himself a Dj but not anyone can be called a pianist. Yeah, but they're not going to be remembered in the long run as good DJs by a substantial amount of people, just like anyone can get learn some chords on guitar and get an open mic slot but substantially less are able to write decent material and gain recognition. thats why i mentioned a few legends in earlier posts...these DJs infuenced me big time to start this ish and they where doing more than just mixing 2 records together

  18. Im sure Paris Hilton was doing arts when she DJd lol u mad?
  19. who said that mixing wasnt Djing? The first DJ that actually scratched and backspinned at DMC was DJ Cheese in 1985, still wondering why he became a world champ? Cause he wasnt a pussy who didnt do shit but mixing records..the DJs that took chances they are the ones who belong in the Hall of fame..The ones who had the guts to take the mixibg a bit further than those Studio 54 disco jocks LMFAO! DST,and Whiz Kid are one of the most important DJs in history, they where groundbreaking and did things that no other sheeple was doing. Still just mixing music is not really an artform
  20. You obviously didnt read my previous post in wich i said that DJs first need to learn the basic stuff before jumping into the more technical aspects Im aware of DJs like Jeff Mills and Andy C but frankly these ppl bore the hell out of me so i wouldnt pay my money to see any of them. Again the point is that mixing can be learned very fast if you have just a bit of rhythm and feeling for music inside of you..most of the time i still mix records just as a pure hobby but i know to juggle takes a lot more effort and skill...especially live...Cash Money, Jazzy Jeff still doing their thing all over the world and they could just mix without doing shit like an average Techno DJ but thats just too boring for my taste.
  21. lol@your rage...feeling offended or something? dont you agree that just mixing doesnt take much skills?
