  1. Yeahhh dope! Am trying to vote too but am waiting two days for a password reset!
  2. He is definitely one of the scratch Dons i was referring to!
  3. I imagine trying to do things with your weak hand in everyday life that you'd normally do with the strong one (pause) might help? I guess if we never use our weak hands for other stuff we can't expect it to scratch well either....
  4. I know sirness preaches practising with the platter off, making your forward sounds sound less like everyone else and more unique. Not sure really, I used to practise all kinds of tear variations (ie 2 fwd 1 back, 3 fwd 3 back etc) loads while watching tv and stuff and I don't feel I'm any good at them really, and they're still much easier on my dominant hand which I don't use for scratching, so unless you're ambidextrous I guess it's pretty hard to get the record hand control level up there with dominant hand scratchers... I'd say def get a portable TT if you haven't already, just for being able to practise loads where you wouldn't normally be able to set decks up.
  5. If you're doing 2 hours a day and varying it over different tempos and trying new things I'm sure you're on the right track. I noticed the speed of my stabs and chirps definitely improved when I made sure to do even just 10-20 mins a day on them, just drilling the basics. Don't know if you've seen it but there is an excellent video where Vekked goes through his drilling routines for boomerangs etc you may get some tips there. https://www.pyramind.com/events/2016/5/18/elite-session-with-dj-vekked-5-time-dmc-world-champion I think if you're having some troubles speeding up the techniques there may be some things you can tweak in your technique - maybe post a vid and one of the scratch dons in here will be happy to help you out if they see something. To be honest I look at loads of other people scratching and however much I'm sure we're putting our clicks in the same places, things just don't sound the same and I guess that's just based on human difference, everyone moves the record slightly differently....
  6. cos he's probably busy working on his 6 min routine for the next round rather than asking people to vote. He only needs to finish top 10 then the judges will likely vote him in the top 2 to progress to final. If for some weird reason he didn't get top 2 this round he still has another 6 or so he can enter for.
  7. Mike, those are some seriously funky juggles! Loved it!! Will def vote today at some point - You should start your own thread about this so more people see it...
  8. I briefly skimmed the names on the entries and hadn't heard of any other than JMarz, Mikec, HannibalFlynt, Rasp & Nino Leal but those should all be worth watching...normally the heavy hitters don't enter so early but I guess that makes the earlier rounds the best bet for progression if you can get your entry in early.
  9. Kind of always avoided these like the plague... (scratching with them at least) Not really sure why...the motion for quick stabs with both hands going in the same direction makes them easier to do with upfaders, and obviously fades and echoes are great fun, but everything else seems more natural for me with the xfader. Anyone really use them to their advantage and care to share any tips, settings/calibration tips etc...either for scratching or within juggles? Not asking paul to divulge his awesome Euro secrets but just some opinions/basics!
  10. Funny you should say that, I had a housemate at uni who wasn't the slightest bit interested in scratching, in fact he probably hated it, but me coming home with a new Turntable TV was always the highlight of his week!
  11. For anyone who has something similar, found a place locally that was happy to test the battery free of charge and it's definitely the charger that's gone.thanks for all the tips!
  12. no worries, those are pretty legendary..let me know if you want me to pass you those and I'll try to dig them out. Got hold of about 10 of those Prime Cuts on Westwood sessions now!
  13. That was awesome Jon well done....The whole buzz online around the event on social media etc was huge...Really good marketing/strategy/exposure etc, hope you really reap the rewards!
  14. ahh thanks Si, I actually had a buggered logic board on my previous laptop before so appreciate how costly that is, it's often easier to get a new one! It could well be the issue though as this one is prob 5 years old and has been saying "a graphics problem has been detected" for about 2 years now lol It's down to 1% now so I fear once that hits zero I'm not gonna be able to turn it on so don't want to let it run down completely but will def try the other tips, much appreciated!
  15. yeah cheers I was thinking last night, it's probably got to be the battery, largely because when I press the battery indicator light thingy on the side only one of the lights come on and flashes rapidly, suggests it's got no juice! Yeah I've tried original and knock off batteries and both have been fine, I didn't have to open up my last macbook to install a replacement but this it looks like i need to, but I'm sure there's a billion tutorials on you tube for that!
  16. Wondered if any one can easily see which has the problem (and hopefully save me a trip to an apple "genius"!) An original and now a "fake" charger have both died in the space of a week that served me well for at least 5 years. The original is completely done but the fake "charges" - when I say "charges", the laptop shows the charging symbol but stays on whatever percentage it was on when I connect it (now down to 2%). If I disconnect charger the percentage drops. The light on the charger that is normally red when charging and (green when fully charged) has stopped coming on at all at the same time I noticed the percentage can't increase. I don't have any other charger I can test it with unfortunately, am I missing a really obvious way of telling if I need new battery or charger? thanks !
  17. If anyone else looking for a discounted S9 I got £125 off the price at Juno.co.uk by asking for the better price (with a bit of back n forth emails), worth a try!
  18. got 2x Stanton Str8-150's for £165 each the other day. Found a few bargains eons ago whilst not everyone was looking on eBay I guess.... PT01 mint for £20, silver QFO Mint £400, 2x PDX2000 for €50 each but nothing that beats that price for a 2kXL!!
  19. loooooll that last cover Dan! how are you posting pics I thought we couldn't?
  20. couple of classics from Royal Flush definitely!! This was one of mine, played it everywhere! Can't find this anywhere (only the instrumental) but also played it all the time! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWwirCkxv7M
  21. ahhh I definitely recommend the album, I'll send you it later if you want, excellent stuff with Lil Jaz cuts all over it
  22. Curious if anyone else was a big fan? I remember moving to Spain around '06 and a friend gave me a tonne of music to listen to like it was some third world country with no decent music whatsoever lol, and I barely played anything other than Arcee's album during my whole stay. As far as I gathered he didn't record much after that I guess, now seems to talk about rare records and run Cratery blog, just was thinking today that album (cuts from Lil' Jaz) was so good and curious if anyone else was into it and especially interested as to how it went down in Canada too? Did it get a vinyl release? Don't see anything on discogs...
  23. great finds Dan! Maybe we need a new "funny/awful" covers thread as opposed to just dope artwork?
