  1. Ha yes Doob Yeah that Vaults gig you came to jus before Crimbo was an ideal first Dat Brass show to see, decent sound, dope venue, mad up for it crowd ... fugging stage invasion tho While theres a seemingly loads brass bands doing the covers of big classics thing, I think dat brass have an interesting niche of hi energy, wide fusion of musical genres... plus there originals are actually really fucking good. Apart from the incredible hypnotic brass ensemble I cant think many other brass acts that perform with such enthusiasm, the energy they play with is mad infectious and transmits in to the audience at every gig, I was in shell shock the first time I played with em lol. The fact they love what scratching adds to there sound basically overrides all of the above, there mad keen to integrate what I can do as much as pos. When they decided to do a proper band version of my Sweet Lorna routine at last years Bestival, the band bossman wrote a horn section after watching my youtube vid, we rehearsed literally a couple of times a day before the festival and then jus done it live... bloody trained musicians and there ability to jus do dope shit ffs
  2. Some of you would of seen these vids already but for those who haven't... ^^^ Really pleased how this came out, a pretty good reflection of how huge it sounds when we perform it live at shows. Would of loved to of gone in on the scratch drum tech but I pussy'ed out in favour of jus nailing a neat as pos recording. And made this above edit showing how I hooked up with Dat Brass and the timeline of my IDA set to the brass band cover version being recorded.
  3. @Vekked - Total price with UK shipping is very reasonable (with DV discount added its basically the same as ordering a scratch 7" from UK, kudos!) But after checking the shit state of my cash flow Im gonna wait until pay day before new rekkid purchases. Any word if TTW be getting some stock of Fresh Cuts?
  4. Nice one dude! Really keen to cop this but was holding out for the potential of Ritchie stocking it at TTW to save on shipping. Def gonna jump on this now with the discount
  5. Think Ive successfully convinced them that "Simon Says" needs to be done Waiting to hear back on the other tracks I suggested
  6. That word appears on one of the Grass Hopper breaks, I can't even scratch a sample of it without feeling like - A: a wally and B: a cunt Loving all the suggestions beys, bigups! @danswift - its not a cover but we do a song called - straight outta brompton @Joe - loving that live version of Kashmere!
  7. Summer is good shout in general, the most well known rap lyrics of all time? And yeah holy calamity/bear witness pt2 brass band cover has to happen, think I can replicate most of the cuts on that track. The thought a live/played horns and drum break version is pretty sploodge worthy
  8. Yes Chriss, nailed it!/why the feck didnt I think of them?! ^^ Thats basically how Ive shoe horned myself into the existing covers when I first hooked up with the band. Our remit for these 4 tracks is to try implement more routine to band cross over vibe, like our cover of sharp shooter, routine - then band join in etc...
  9. The brass band Im in wanna do 4 covers of seminal music that had scratching in. While theres loads of obvious nerdy turntablist stuff to choose from I feel staying closer to more known/semi main stream would be better, considering the bands audience. So obviously theres Rockit (ffs) Im feeling the idea of doing bear witness Pt2 What other tracks do you recon we should consider??
  10. @Backtrack - If a London visit isn't mandatory, what about flying direct to Bristol airport?
  11. Ah yes the old hollow stage thing... the first residency I had in a local pub, booth was on a floor above the cellar, every time a heavy footed high heeled wearing lady would stomp past it would make my shitty Geminis skip. That said at least in that era many bigger venues catered for playing vinyl - booths with concrete slabs or the table suspended via chains from the ceiling. Never see either nowadays
  12. I wouldnt be surprised that a lot of my isolation woes would of been solved by not using a plastic hollow PDX. That said a lot of the dat brass gigs are on huge systems, so after what happened I now never do those gigs without taking a thick sheet of MDF and some sheets of foam incase of understage sub situations. Then theres the scenarios at festivals - temporary stages, enthusiastically jumping/dancing band mates.... the sooner phase drops the better!
  13. Big sub bass playing havoc with my DVS signal to the point where the track starts jumping around. Actually happened mid mix at CSG this year, dropped a particularly low end sub heavy track and it skipped my DVS playing track forward in the middle of a mix. It was on PDX tho, poorest isolated table going. In that situation I jus rolled a bit of bass off and all was good. But had few occasions recently where large temporary PA instals were set up close to the booth which resulted in switching to internal mixing. The worst scenario Ive had was when playing with the brass band last year. Jus before the show started I went up to my decks, saw my mixer had moved, thought someone had been fucking with my gear, I moved the mixer back in to place... and then noticed it slowly vibrating across the the table again. I then discovered that part of stage I was set up on was directly above a huge understage sub. I got about half thru the gig before I had to stop using DVS and switch to real wax, as I was jus doing scratches over the band all was good as Im sure if didnt have the bass rolled right down for cutting there would of been epic feedback. Tech like the phase and 12 should eliminate the above worst case scenarios, plus other pitfalls of non ideal DVS setups - dodgy headshell terminals for instance. The phase is especially appealing to me as you can still switch to real wax.
  14. Mmmmmm C1 The 12 really comes in to its own for gigs when the isolation from huge rigs is poor, also eliminates a few other issues you can have. Id buy a 12 in a heart beat if they worked on Traktor, had to switch to internal mixing to many times over years. Hence Ill def be jumping on the Phase bandwagon when that drops.
  15. +1 to Phil continuing to get royally fucked on the first day of scratch events, he was in full flail and love to all mode, holding a pint close to his chest and frequently pouring said booze on to him self without reregistering the growing damp patch = wet T shirt, flailing Phil.
  16. Defo keep an eye on gumtree to mate. if your after jus one but can afford two, get a pair as pairs normally go for better value and then jus sell one off. Ball ache but can make/save you £80+
  17. £350 max for good condition IMO You selling or buying Joe?
  18. Sorry for being dics about dj tech, that mixer will definitely serve its purpose in regards to getting on the cut. Jus cant get away from the fact that its been constructed out of the cheapest components possible, that said its been very fairly priced for what it is, but in terms quality and how long itll last etc.... you cant expect to much. The Pio 250 on the other hand.... if pioneer werent trying to get people to adopt Record Box DVS its likely that the 250 would cost more. I wouldnt suggest rushing to return the djtech but definitely worth considering further thought before the option of returning expires.
  19. Ah the secret..... that conversation
  20. @Joe - lol You have go traditional and use the motor off 1200 style Deft - Yeah digital is never gonna feel/sound as direct as real wax but the Rane 12 should equal the best real feel results currently possible vs traditional DVS but ultimately is always gonna come down to the digital vs analog feel/sound thing. Im looking forward to giving the 12 a go when the opportunity comes round.
  21. Surely the only 12 with a scratchbox sitting next to it And therefore the most interesting pic of the 12 Ive seen to date (I had a pointless rant on FB of the seemingly endless social media posts of people showing off there new Rane gear, turns out a scratchbox makes said Rane willy waving ok, mmmmmm Rodec)
