  1. people who are into that sort of thing fucking LOOOOVE Smashing Pumpkins' Melancollie & the Infinite Sadness. I checked out after Siamese Dream personally oh, the White Album, duh. Even though you guys all hate the Beatles.
  2. for what it's worth, my wedding rates are $100/first hour, $75 each subsequent hour, including travel time. Plus expenses (gas, any rentals, lodging/food if applicable). I don't have lights and, indeed, I'm not a "wedding dj" in the usual sense (i.e. no requests pretty much), and I explain all that carefully to the client, and lose about half my gig offers because of it
  3. super awesome, all I want in this world is to put out a record. Congrats MN
  4. sweet, thanks dudes. Seems like the coffin would be very heavy & unwieldy. I also like how you can stack the separate flight cases. I'll look into the Swan cases... round these parts, flight cases are nearly $100 each, and it looks like I could make a pair of them for less than $100, and then turn the saved money directly into whiskey and celebrate that way... but I dunno. I'll keep you posted.
  5. Hey DV, Funksmith here. I recently borrowed a pair of flightcases and now I need some because they are so great. A buddy of mine made himself some and claims they are awesome & cheap to make. Anyone have any insight into this? The making of flightcases? Also, does anyone have insight into the dilemma of flightcases vs one big coffin that holds everything? It seems to me that the coffin would be super heavy, and if I got a different mixer it might not fit, etc. Pros of the coffin are that everything stays hooked up. Anything I'm overlooking? Thanks dudes.
  6. guys guys, can we get back on track and keep talking about how the 1-armed dj isn't very good? That was a lot more entertaining
  7. Gotcha. Then I can juggle 2 different but similar versions of the same track and blows everyone's mind
  8. okay, so I bought A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing on vinyl, mainly to have The Choice Is Yours, but it's some weird version. Is this one of those cases where the version I'm familiar with is actually a remix that doesn't appear on the album? Like the Pete Rock remix of Ya Can't Stop The Prophet? I'm bummed out. Goddammit. I swear I had the Black Sheep album before, in mp3 form, and it was the version I knew & loved. With the badass bassline. I WANT THAT ONE GODDAMMIT
  9. I'm interested to know what he makes as a performer. He says it's higher... he also says "artists can not opt out of a service like Pandora". So Pandora is free exposure & income that just doesn't pay quite as well as 'real' radio? But still pays out royalties without having to be hassled? Also, it's not like you can retire on a yacht if your song gets played 1 million times on the actual radio.
  10. well? it's true. Name ONE band that plays shows anymore.
  11. one thing you guys are ALL forgetting is that DJs killed live music
  12. best - Numark probably. Also Scratch Bastid from Canada is pretty great, seen him a few times. worst - just some guy who I vaguely know socially, one day he was like "you coming to my show at the Royal?" I had no idea he's a dj, I agreed, I was excited because I know he has cool taste in music. Turns out he'd downloaded Virtual DJ a week before. You can imagine how it was. I would really love to see Kentaro, his Solid Steel mix is my favorite of that series
  13. it seems like the discussion is basically side A, the freedom-of-speech side, based on philosophical objections to control over our freedom to see whatever we want (this side is also worried about how it might be a 'slippery slope'), versus, side B, the side that recognizes that gnarly porn is a pretty fucked-up thing to be consumed by the developing sexuality of a child. I'd be interested to see which opinion people hold correlated with whether they are parents or not. As a parent, I definitely do not want my son seeing some of that shit. Not for a good few years anyways. I'm realistic and I know he'll be checking it out with his friends at some point. But I hope it isn't the crazy stuff. Some of that stuff I wish I had never seen actually.
