  1. I usually see it in conjunction with talking about a slightly warped record, or surface scuffs EDIT: oh, I bet it means "does not affect play" ...? Right?
  2. awesome bro. I dunno what you mean about not being able to mix nicely, unless it's a joke I'm not getting---I thought the mixes were totally suitable to the genres. It's pretty damn hard to do minute-long blends with human drummers. Nice mix
  3. I couldn't tell the difference between any of them on my laptop speakers. When I dj at clubs, I just play songs off iTunes and put a microphone in front of my laptop, so it's good to know there's no difference in sound quality.
  4. I would pick "black music" if that's allowed. Probably not though hey? I wouldn't pick drum n bass. I would have 15 years ago though.
  5. Sigma I've heard that mix of yours before and it rocks. EDIT: I just read on soundcloud that you made it for your girlfriend, which is funny because my girlfriend LOVES that mix man, in like a jumping-up-and-down-clapping-her-hands kind of way. Just thought I'd mention it. my best mix happened the other night but I didn't record it. Halloween house party. Here's my best recorded mix, live from the club in March or so. The first minute or so is a different dj so stick around until the Chi-Lites hit. http://soundcloud.com/rafferty-funksmith/rafferty-funksmith-live-vinyl-set 01 The Chilites --- Have You Seen Her 02 Dr Dre --- Nothin But A G Thang 03 Radiohead --- The National Anthem / Audio II --- Top Billin' (acapella) 04 Bill Withers --- Kissin' My Love 05 Edan --- The E's Have It 06 Taj Mahal --- Gonna Buy You A Chevrolet 07 Gang Starr --- Full Clip 08 A Tribe Called Quest --- Check The Rhime 09 The Meters --- Funky Miracle 10 The Chambers Brothers --- Funky 11 Trouble Funk --- E Flat Boogie 12 James Brown --- Soul Power 13 Parliament --- Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucka) 14 Sly & The Family Stone --- Thank You Fahlettinme Be Mice Elf Agin 15 Blondie --- Rapture 16 KC & The Sunshine Band --- I Get Lifted 17 Otis & Carla --- Tramp 18 The Chilites --- We Are Neighbors 19 Manu Dibango --- Weya 20 War --- Galaxy
  6. Jon, thanks for the paragraphs. I'm a full-time musician too, but djing is taking a bigger and bigger portion of my total output, and I'm really seeing how it could be very lucrative if managed right. I think you summed it all up nicely in your closing remarks: I definitely need to get my game to a level where it would be hard to ignore how awesome I am. And then record that shit and slap it online. Thanks for the replies everyone
  7. mind games. I suuuck at first person shooters. I'm the guy on the couch jumping, dropping his controller and squealing, leaning around corners, and getting his ass capped.
  8. Certainly I need some business cards specific to djing, also a website. In the opposite order I guess. Yeah I have a monthly (more or less) vinyl night... I have a basic understanding of the concept of cross-promotion, but how would I apply it in my case? (Fuckin hell, I'm too lazy for all this jazz. Too lazy to be doing all the stuff I do. I'm gonna need at least 5 different business cards at some point. Then I guess you need to have like a business card holder? A dope one?)
  9. (sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.) so yeah, I just don't even know where to begin. I wanna start playing out of town, so I figure I need something more than just my soundcloud page to show people. Or do I? anyone have suggestions? Examples?
  10. lol. I remember being surprised when it wasn't just magically warm under my blanket, before I got into bed...
  11. I had no idea he passed away...RIP. That blows.
  12. The title says it all, really. I wanna see what people are doing who are just like me, but better. Live mixes are preferred over multi-tracked ones. Anyone know of any pertinent resources?
  13. year and a half on... www.acapellas4u.co.uk you gotta register though
  14. What's up DV, I reside in BC, Canada. I play vinyl records. I scratch a liiiitle bit. Lots of music; I'm in 5 bands too. I play a few instruments. Don't do much else but music... oh except I'm a dad too. I just got the boy a drum kit a couple days ago. He's 7. umm... yeah, pretty much. I've heard whispers of this legendary Digital Vertigo place here and there, finally showed up & checked it out. I try not to join too many forums on the internet but this looks pretty worthwhile. cheers
