  1. some incredible stuff was happening on the underground while deathrow and badboy were gaining momentum. these years were the years when dj premier, jdilla, and 9th wonder were producing some of their best music. these were the years when the boot camp click, gangstarr and group home, de la soul tribe and the zulu nation were all in their prime. all this was 93 to 95 ish. these were also the years just fter 36 chambers dropped before anyone even knew who wu tang were. im sorry but sometimes i think people just get caught up in claiming old school. fuck schools; just enjoy yourself.
  2. never cared for whats fashionable; i listen to early nineties hiphop everyday.
  3. deco mix with some good tunes. definitely far above the general curve for dubstep djs, although their curve is set really low.
  4. i wonder how many discs this game will be?
  5. i took a week off of work from 11/11/11 to the 18th. they totally revamped the leveling system, and added the "perks" system from fallout3 and new vegas.
  6. eljopa is the tag. i probably use netflix and live arcade more than anything else. not a big cod guy, but horde on gow2 was awesome so i imagine id be into that when it comes out.
  7. i remember on a qbert dvd toad was giving him some really good advice, i will try and paraphrase... first show the audience the entire sample once or twice. like baby once and then let it play, raise your hands to the crowd to emphasize "this is the sample in its entirety." maybe even one more time, "w-word." raise hands point at the record. then just bust it... while it my not be juggling with your hands behind your back, or using the fader with you lips or something, i think it will educate the crowd to what is actually going on as well as elevate yourself from the rest of the group in the same way a guitarist goes to the front of the stage when he solos does.
  8. wow! i just stumbled upon this board by a happy accident... i received some genuine input from a mix i had posted on djforums, from Steve here on DV i believe, and found this board from his sig. i immediately noticed these djs posting here werent the typical djs "discussing" on message boards. now, it is clear to me that they werent djs they were turntablists. grats to everyone here; so many quality competitors and djs on one board can only be good.
  9. im jopa. i dj, read books, play videogames, and watch tvs. actually i cant really say i dj since i havent played out in a few years, so i guess i make mixes. sometimes theyre even worth listening to. i have taken a new shift at work which leaves me with lots of time for internet holliganism. feel free to drop me a line and/or check out www.rabidvinylmonks.com
  10. one thing i like about the sync feature is it completely removed the alarm i felt when djing out live. i cannot stand leaving a track on for too long, because basically immediately after recognition comes distraction... meaning as soon as you recieved the "oh, i really like this tune" from your typical party goer, youre already being forgotten about. so i always had this feeling like im losing the crowd during the beatmatching process. i found using sync i can remove the anxiety of, "am i gonna make this one, or should i try another tune right quick?" and can even use hotcues to completely cut out the middle versus' and hooks, jump to the end, and mix out using the last few breaks as most tracks were intended. (essentually turning a six minute track into a two minute track that allows me to use the initial instrumental breaks to mix in and the last few instrumental breaks to mix out). prior to going digital, i wouldnt allow this alarm to stop me from throwing an instrumental into the mix to scratch over and then use doubles of the same track to juggle the vocal version in, but i now no longer need to purchase doubles to use an instrumental and an album version, i can just creat a loop of the break from the original track itself. i know its crazy to admit anxiety, or insecurity about mixing on a dj message board, but if you find you can mix every track you play in seconds without ever a moment of doubt then i think youre not leaving your genre comfort zone enough.
  11. im really feeling that break, man... however, the download link wasnt working for me.
  12. i absolutely love biggie as an emcee and artist, but this kind of shit makes me sick. i also feel it is indicative of hiphop evolving into rap.
