  1. used to be a 3.5er, but i think im sticking with 2.5 for a while...
  2. unfortunately most of the douche bags sporting the stars n bars, or confederate, or whatever flag, arent even aware of what the phrase "state rights" means, so i personally feel that argument is kind of moot. the people, atleast up north here, that wear shirts with that flag and paint those flags on their trucks do so to express their intolerance towards other races. period.
  3. i paid $44 (includes shipping) for a japanese import of "pepper" because rabid vinyl monks hate all new technology and refused to use software. just kidding.
  4. vinyl addicts mixtapes from benzo, spontaneous, and stizo. i had all four which was one for each dj and then "3 the hard way" each cassette was a different color and most were bought from the "spic mall" in humboldt park. i really wish i still had them, but i cant find any of my old cassettes. really is a shame, because the mixes were very fucking solid both in selection and technique, and i cant find any of them online. basically like the midwest's beat junkies... skilled enough to win battles, but enjoy rocking parties more...
  5. im not confident in my ability to record on a professional level. i have no external sound card with the exception of the audio8 and i havent figured out how to use it with any program besides traktor. im kind of lazy, but had i the means of recording properly for you i would accept the opportunity. sorry. i hope you find someone.
  6. and yet im sure all three of those djs could eat you up without controllers or dubs.
  7. "What Rob Swift should be pushing for is for people to have the right attitude, not for people to use a certain piece of equipment, or for them to exclude themselves from using certain pieces of equipment. But that said, people with certain attitudes are drawn to certain pieces of equipment too." this made my facebook wall where i generally only post quotes and videos. fucking right on bro... disablists... well made and very slick. nothing much i would criticize other than the behind the back type tricks: you might have noticed the rhythm fell off through that whole part. i would never sacrifice audio for gimmicks, but i guess for a video i understand... kind of.
  8. hack djs are hack djs no matter how "well" they sound; anyone can sound sufficient these days... and it doesnt take much to impress an inebriated crowd. often i find the mind behind the gear more important than the results. but yeah, ive had my rounds with the tech vs purity thing. not doing it anymore.
  9. i dont want to think about sorting records... its nauseating.
  10. im not convinced its the carts... i believe its the styli, and all four of those carts are between seven and ten years old.
  11. thats depressing. i dont want to have to order new carts. we will see, i guess...
  12. thats a good observation... i couldnt think of an answer to your question as quickly as i should be able to with all the recent advancements in technology. i could only think off mass effect for seamlessly combining FPS gameplay with RPG principles. heavy rain was interesting as well, but i think it was just a highly technical throwback to early PC games like Myst which are more like interactive motion pictures. im going to consider that question more for the next few days and possibly comment.
  13. the best way to describe Rage would be to recall an exchange between my roommate and i... "im unimpressed, man.""huh? i havent done anything." "no, i mean im unimpressed with rage. there isnt anything new about it at all." "i cant really argue that, but everything thats there is well polished and fun. driving and blowing shit up. fun. combat and controls. fun. recipes and schematics. fun. open exploration. fun." "yeah. im gonna go play it some more." "me too." i wasnt the one unimpressed.
  14. rollerblader or no, that mix is fucking slick!
  15. so i havent noticed an audible difference switching between line and phono in the software settings for the audio8. i tried using several different turntables and mixer combinations. i have four m447s and three of which seem to be giving me this "skipping" failure or the "left channels missing" timeout failure. one needle seems to be working fine. so i have decided it is my needles... only i dont have any audible issues when using original vinyl with these "bad" needles. i have noticed that the guard (clear plastic piece designed to preserve the stylus) will actually touch the record near the outer perimeter where for some reason my timecode vinyls have a small lip. i normally use a 3.5g counter weight as suggested by most turntablists... i moved them down to 2.5g and this does resolve the issue a little bit. so i think the styli are old and allowing the cartridge to actually touch the vinyl in moments... this is really the only explanation i can come up with... new timecoded vinyls and styli are on the way. i appreciate everyones input. thanks.
  16. went through my ipod and only two bands with female singers celebration and the patience. the patience are a group of highschool girls from dekalb illinois who made an ep back in '08; pretty solid pop rock stuff. celebration is an indie all star type band from new york. not like hard rocking, but really fucking cool and groovy. lots of r&b and soul, but i guess the girls dont do the rock thing too well... patti smith comes to mind and blondie i guess.
  17. you know what, now that you mention it, i recall watching a video about changing configurations of the audio8 itself and that having to do with phono/line/grounding issues. im gonna tinker with that and see what i can figure out. thanks for the heads up.
  18. smif n wessun sound boy burriell(spelling?) is pretty minimal as well...
  19. having to be selective about my vices lately... chose to hold out the sixty bones for Rage instead.
  20. its very likely it would. it would be more like production than djing... djs have to walk a fine line between just playing other peoples tracks and making their own. i mean a mixtape, in the traditional sense, is for a dj to showcase music he loves as much as his skills. so you want to showcase that tune as a work of art and not so much a tool for your own art... which is what i feel most turntablism is about. which is why alot of battle turntablists dont have mixtapes available; many of them probably dont mix well. the ones who do have moments and interludes where they really go off and showcase skills peppered throughout a solid mix. someone posted a mix on dj forums a while back that was a little over an hour and had some plus 200 tracks featured. i applauded the effort as a genuine work of art, but after a week or two it lost its charm and revealed itself to not be one of those timeless mixes that you can listen to again and again.
  21. i cant believe i havent realized that. i think because the issues disappeared when i hooked up the 909 i automatically assumed it was the mixer. however, clearly that cannot be the case. i dont understand how the issued seemed resolved by switching the mixer though. maybe i knocked around cables switch them, but still that seems fickle... like i need to shake the cables to get traktor to work properly? mmmmm... it does give me much to think about. could be the tone arms. damn.
  22. also i take apart and clean my rane atleast every three months. so those knobs are irreparable, and i think are the reason why traktor has a problem reading the time codes.
  23. so my rane has just about had it. faders are like butter, and everything works in general, but there are some serious issues. both gain knobs now have fuzz when theyre moving and traktor for some reason has trouble reading the timecoded vinyl. for a while it would say the right channel is missing and fail to sync, this would cause severe control issues when manipulating the vinyl. now it says its skipping and fails, but leaves no control issues and i can scratch like it was real vinyl. however, when owl brings his 909 over the issues disappear. so ive decided i need a new mixer. i cannot afford the kind of mixer i would like to have right now, so i need something that is affordable but still performs. right now i am set on either the denon x-120 or the numark x5. i like the idea of a digital mixer now that i am using traktor more, but to be honest i dont understand the different. i mean, i know what the difference is between analog and digital, but i dont understand the different between a mixer that markets itself as digital and one that doesnt. ultimately im looking for suggestions on affordable 2 channel scratch mixers, between $200 and $400. obviously the cheaper the better. i can nab that x120 for $165 and the x5 for $300. xfader performance and reliability is the most important aspect for me. all input welcome and encouraged. thanks.
  24. ive hit up both those joints. the cellar is probably one of the best dig spots in the midwest. where you reside at these days?
