  1. Someone commented recently on d-styles board about scratching/turntablism jumping the shark quite some time ago. Not that I disagree that its gone to shite... ...but WHEN do you guys think it all went to hell? Be SPECIFIC! ...some might say the introduction of custom records in the last couple years ...but I personally blame Vekked...its just seems like the right thing to do! ...thoughts?
  2. I never have to mix longer than an hour if at all and otherwise I'm doin showcase type sets with Vinyl only...I hate cutting with digital samples (especially AHHHHH's etc) just because I find the accuracy I can get with analog I simply can't get with serato...maybe I'm anal about it (no homo) but I don't like the latency for scratching on a digital format. - V
  3. fab five freedy... I do...I'm actually supposed to interview him again soon and I plan on asking him about the history of "ahhh" & "fresh" and how its become public domain etc...I'll be sure to post it here when I can. He's a real nice guy...a smart cat too. Cheahhhh.... - Vet
  4. You should try to get him booked in Toronto...there's a bubblign dubstep scene here...just a thought!
  5. Haha, that's proper ghetto. Hahahaha sicccccccccc.....!
  6. For those who have a rc-50...I have been using thia setup 1 pdx 3000 1 M-Audio Keyrig 25 1 Rane TTM-56 1 Kaoss Pad 2 and here's something I picked up not too long ago to be alot more hands free: http://www.synthtopia.com/news/05_06/Behringer_Nano.html This allows me to control 3 things (since that is the max amount of midi signals you can send to the rc-50) 1. Volume for each track 2. Panning for each track 3. I switch up this last function depending on the track I"m performing a) All tracks stop/fade to stop b) Reverse c) Tempo adjust (which doesn't always work when I would like but that might be a programming mistake I'm overlooking when I program this unit) This allows me to be VERY hands free and not look like such a oddball ducking behind my deck so often during shows. I have been meaning to post up a bit of a tutorial for tips & tricks for the rc-50 as I have found a few interesting ways to perform with it over the last year. Perhaps that's something I should look back into doing since there seems to be more users within our realm (of turntables) now.
  7. LOL just realized this WASN'T about lighting up a J before performing (the terminology threw me off). So here's the re-edit... In terms of being simple...yeah I think its all in context. Its all in the placement at the end of the day. I teach dj'ing / scratching pretty regularly and always stress to students that I'd rather hear simple & clean vs. technical/fast/sloppy ANYDAY. That's what makes guys like D-Styles great...not pushing 100% at all times...but like any mix dj would select the right tunes at the right time...same goes for cuts. - word.
  8. I do hear what ur saying about the delayed 2 click...but then again that was something I stumbled onto on my own naturally....I think when so many people were connected by the net during a such big growth period...lets say from...96-2002 (very compressed in terms of advancement) made technique for scratching advance ALOT quicker than most traditional 'instruments' just through sharing knowledge...turorials and battle footage etc...because of this, I think the ground work has been pretty throroughly covered and its all anunciation and texture development and also refinement of combos by this point. I'd be REALLY surprised if there was anything that would shake the foundation of whats been developed...but it would be dope if that WASN'T true!
  9. The only real technique avenue left to me now is hand tension...utilizing fingers & thumb and parts of the hand to colour your sound. Everything else is just combo expansion and not really new IMO. There really truly IS a limit in terms of *new* technique as we are only limited by back/forward & on/off. There are limitations just as any other instrument. I have been working more on simple folding of basic scratches to find new ways to create rhythm and pitch without being so 'clicky'...I will try to post a basic video example soon... Good post Muzzell!
  10. I thought it said "Vekked Penis Cuts" cause he's such a cockface. Good cuts tho man I see you been practicin!
  11. I have mixed quite a few times with one deck ...one efx unit & a rc-20 / rc-50....Dj Mana from Montreal mixes quite regularly with serato & one cdj / turntable & mixer. From what Ive seen with Serato its quite easy...you just need to get used to switching your 'virtual' deck from 1 to 2...etc. Although mixing with the loopers probably isn't what you were asking about its quite interesting to do as you can build loops & layer your mixes...I found it made mixing fresh again for me, makes you think a bit more about your in's & outs in a mix since ur sampling songs at times as well. Fun stuff!
  12. Hey guys I'm working on a video project and I have an idea but I can't find an application or way to make this happen just yet. Perhaps somebody knows how to do this. Basically what I need to do is...turn audio into a visualization or video file much like you would see on an oscilloscope. I guess kind of like that V-Scratch software but not necessarily THAT...just something that could basically have that oscilloscope style wav form rendered into a video format for later editing. Hope that made sense....anyone got any ideas?
  13. Thanks B! I like the other ones you posted up too....and your Avatar is PURE FIRE...I could stare at that all day...know where I could find that one online?
  14. Thanks again guys, I will post more when I get a chance...and a digi cam.
  15. Dude, sample into your pc how you would NORMALLY then just make mp3's or wav's and import them...easy. Why even bother recording INTO serato?
  16. Thanks man! Much appreciated!
  17. Hey guys, I took up painting in the last year (I used to draw a bit when I was younger...) and thought I would post up some stuff I had pics of... "Noyz" 18 x 36" Acrylic on Canvas This one looks stenciled but was actually done from a reference picture and given that 'look'...the rest of the graphics were done freestyle'ish on the fly as I worked on it. 7-10-12 "BWR" is 18 x 18" Canvas - Black/Red Indian Ink was used This was one of the first pieces I ever messed with...seeing as most of us are dj's here I dont' think I have to explain what its supposed to be. LOL. I used to draw a bit but the painting thing is a refreshing change from my usual scratchyness...thanks for checkin!
  18. I say the dj's should all have to put their 'routines' in umarked black dj bags and then just grab one at random right when they have to go on...at least it would be interesting.
  19. I say that all competitors should be judged on their lacquer pressing skills live in front of a crowd of thousands and once the record is done we just PLAY the record in its entirety without touching it at ALL...I mean who really needs to 'scratch' anyway right? Pffffft.... Post a MOTHER STAMPER BITCHES!!!
  20. I said this last year and I'll say it again. 1 battle for records strictly dug for (i.e. no customs, just regular non-purpose records) 1 battle for custom records only (i.e. the producer style battle that DMC is quickly turning into anyway) 1 battle for serato (which is semi-redundant but I think the more seperate digital is from analog the better) As good as precision was he was in no way on the same page as Rafik just because of the records Rafik used...anyone can 'sound' dope when all your transitions are planned out and customized. p.s. this years' dmc was by far the more boring I have seen EVER. =(
  21. I have this one: http://www.vistek.ca/details/details.aspx?WebCode=230392 Its 3CCD which is basically broadcast quality....probably the best Mini DV cam on the market before you get into HD cams. Has a nice Leica lens and picks up colour and low light REALLY REALLY well. I've had it about a month now and it was definetely a dope buy. If you care at all about quality...skip the cams with hard drives or that use DVD-RW...they don't capture video as well as tape.

    PSP 2.71 mod? help?

Seen, I must admit that I've long thought the PSX-emu scene would change the PSP. How does this stack up against storage memory limitations though? Take FFVIII for instance, I wouldn't mind bashing that again since I only finished it once, but that's about 2.8GB of game which is pretty prohibitive... Liam, you can get flash memory up to 8gb now so anything is really possible if you want...I always liked nintendo too but the capabilities of a modded PSP are just too good to pass up for $170CDN

    PSP 2.71 mod? help?

Well on the flash I bought from him it has the DEVHOOK0.4x Launcher for 2.71...when I want to run the devhook here is what I have to do: By the way...he didn't open up anything to do any of this...he just used flash memory. Turn on the PSP without a disc...go to photos...scroll down to "HENB" and there's a pic of like...static like youd see on a tv screen...so I highlight it and it auto runs the "mod" I guess...the screen goes blue then it auto reboots...then I run devhook...it has a menu allowing me to choose which version to change the firmware to temporarily then I select the ISO I want to play...and put a disc back in and boom...play the game. So I don't know if that makes any sense...but I just dont' wanna risk the brick you know...lol, I would hate to have such a pretty doorstop on my hands.
