  1. I don't think so. DJs had been using customized acetates and test presses for a minute for shows and recordings (like when they wanted to cut up their names and stuff). Jayquan talks about stuff like this on his youtube channel, the Foundation. He cites an example or two in early hip hop but who knows how far back it went. Cool. Good stuff, I will have to check his channel, sounds interesting.
  2. Does the record produced by Blondies' Chris Stein for the Wild Style film count as the first record produced for DJs to cut up with?
  3. Thanks Fellas. Yes Backtrack mod indeed, well spotted Sy - should of mentioned that in the blurb actually. Yeah this my first video in a long long time. Work this year should be less intense so hopefully will have some more time for music. Mad props for the wax too Sy. I'll probably have to pick your brains at some point about pressing scratch records.
  4. Just done a little freestyle vid. Combinations from the Masters wax & new Rane 72 in full effect.
  5. Best 3 are 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords & Cuban Linx.
  6. One weird thing about this whole scenario is labels and artists receive zero income from any second hand record/CD sales, bootleg or not.
  7. Thats all I can hear now.. you're twistin my melon man!
  8. I used some washers on the rails of my Rane upfader to reduce the space at the top (full volume). I dont see why that wouldnt work with the cross fader too, and may have less potential for damage than bending the sensors.
  9. Cool. Thanks for the info. Can you use the 447 stylus in them? I guess the answer is yes, but with some hard to quantify sound differences. Cool. Thanks for the info. Can you use the 447 stylus in them? I guess the answer is yes, but with some hard to quantify sound differences.
  10. Ive got some carts and 2 spare styli on the way. Ive been using some Generic ones for Serato for a while and they seem ok - was hesitant to use with real wax though. Anyone used 44Gs before? How do they compare with 447s?
  11. Is that the guy from First Down?
  12. If you can make it past my retinue of bodyguards, stylists, hangers-on, sycophants, groupies and PR reps then it will be a absolute pleasure to meet you too Phil. The snow in Leeds itself is not too bad now - all the roads to the venue are clear and well travelled currently. I've not ventured onto the motorways though. Hope everyone can make it.
  13. I will hopefully be heading along after work on Sunday. Looking forward to it!
  14. If you just want pads + a few knobs. The MPD218 is pretty good and fairly cheap. I have one and the pads are nice and responsive. I assume they are the same pads as on the other models.
  15. Also, Looking at discogs it seems that the dusty fingers comps are now contraband and unacceptable for sale.
  16. Doesn't the uploader have the option to identify the track? I think this is a mixcloud equivalent to "cover ups". Quite how that fits with th dusty fingers I'm not sure! Dope mix though!!!
  17. I started using Music Bee after Steve recommended it here, so credit where credit is due! JHouse: ive never had any performance issues with it.
  18. There's no right or wrong way, but routing to the aux return is probably simplest. If you had external fx units you wanted to run computer audio through then you could consider routing it through one of the line channels, but with only 2 in 2 out on your interface you have to treat your stereo in/outs as 2x mono in/outs and ensure record and play are separate. You'd have to be careful to turn the aux send down too if you switch things around, otherwise you can get the screaming wall of feedback comin at'cha.
  19. What mixer are you using?Does it have an aux output or sends? You may be able to have everything running through the mixer and use the alt/aux/send outputs to send to the duet, with the duet master output plugged into the mixer but only sending to the main out.
  20. I use MusicBee. Rip to FLAC. It automatically finds track names etc. Import to Serato.
