  1. after seeing that video.. wow. I wonder if he thinks he's america's best dj?
  2. a-traks de la soul amd missy elliot juggles from 2001 are good ones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wy5t7Dc-Cs
  3. well done muzzel! me too .. I need a new cross fader! thanks le jad.
  4. thanks jimmy i appreciate it. On the b4b forum j-one says he's expecting the final judge's vote on friday
  5. also you have to be registered to read it. as far as i can tell your locked out of the forum otherwise.
  6. j-one said this today on the b4b forum: "ça arrive vraiment rapidement ! J'ai le verdict de DJ Fly, DJ Troubl, DJ Nelson ( dans qq minutes...), et pour les autres ça devrait pas tardé, enfin j'espère !" translation: "it happens really fast! I have the verdict DJ Fly,DJ Troubl, DJ Nelson (in few minutes to ...), and for others it should not slow, at least I hope"
  7. Thanks Le Jad, Im not too bothered about the forum thing. For me it was good to get some votes and ..to be honest,it was nice to know that other people had enjoyed my routine, even if they didnt vote for me (more votes would of been better of course ). I actually thought odilon's set was one of the better ones myself - especially whan you consider that others took a similar approach but didn't do it as well. Very true. Those 5 judges will decide who is in the top 3,4 or 5, although I could see the forum vote effecting the eventual order. Battles and controversy go hand in hand- i dont think ive ever been in one where there wasnt someone who felt hard done by or where there werent rumours of politics or favouritism! I remember juddging a dmc heat myself a few years ago- and put down my 1st,2nd 3rd with absolute honesty - the choice was difficult- but afterwards there were lots of people saying it was "fixed" etc etc
  8. I think he go loads of his friends to sign up and vote for him! Odilon did the same - it was on the b4b battle forum.Out of those two sets I could see odilon doing ok with the regular judges.
  9. Hey Le Jad, Do you know when the other judges results are likely to come through? Will that forum result stand given the facebook votes controversy stuff?
  10. I only found out about the forum vote thing cause sole 1 posted my video over there - so went to have a look at the site. I saw a post from J-one the other day which said there will be 5 judges and the sixth judge will be the forum vote. cool, i thought that might have been the case... well at least i enjoyed cosntructing my argument for when someone does have a go at routines in general!
  11. haha ..i might begin to regret saying that more than posting the video of my namesake!
  12. Although I agree that some of the freestyle entries were some of the best videos (e.g.kurteek,fakser,mr brown) and some of the routines are forgetable.I have to disagree with you if you mean that routines are in some way inherently gimmicky. Gimmicks to me are spinning on the turntable, dismantling the deck or being the first person to scratch with a ventriloquists puppet or something. A below average routine is just that- below average- I dont think gimmicks have anything to do with it. Routines like "adventures on the wheels of steel",ISP's "klams of death",Craze US finals 98,woody's "little samba" and muzzel's frank sinatra routine.. are not gimmicks at all - but an essential component of style. Routines are just one way for dj's to express that compositional streak - although there are others. To me the line between gimmicks/style is not the same as the line between composed/improvised. Mr brown - is your video gone completely? would you ever consider posting it up under a different title so it doesnt show in the playlist. I can understand why you probably want to forget about it, but the video was dope and people would definitely want to see more of it.
  13. oh shit no way! how you doing Adam? I saw you on the community scratch videos that came out last year doing some really nice loop pedal + serato thing if i remember rightly, and some freestyling too.I think somebodies being putting the practice in over the years, really good stuff mate! - next time you come to leeds you should battle baboon and put him on his arse!(it was him who found that youtube video)Is blak randy your alter ego, cause you were discuss on those vids? The hyphen in my dj name has never been so important.
  14. I probably shouldnt post this since im new year round here and all... but what the heck.. my mates found this and thought it was hysterical: this guy gets my vote for the best wedding dj ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byVVn_ilS8A

    2 mpcs?

without wanting to sound like the pushy salesmen with a foot wedged in the door: some simple things that are really useful about jjos 1.change settings for a group of pads or all pads at the same time . akai os is just one pad at a time - which sucks if youve got some sample chops already done but you need to change the tuning of every one for instance.(imagine this with filters, attack too etc ) 2.sample chopping is loads better. i prefer chopping on the jjos mpc so much more than any other platform, including things like recycle etc.So much so ive set up loads of custom actions in Reaper so it behaves as much like the JJos sample chopping as possible. (for when im chopping and the mpc isnt around) 3.alt loop and crossfade loop options. perfect for adding a tail on too samples which stop too abruptly. 1,2 are in the free versiom, but 2 is better in the pay version 3 is pay version only.

    2 mpcs?

2000's mayhave been built better in there day but they're older machines and spare parts are much harder to come by (like the lcd displays etc). Ive got 2 mpc's : a 1000 and a 60 . The 1000 sees a lot more action becuase its a lot quicker , the 60's dope for sampling into or doing very simple stuff, because chopping is time consuming. If your using jjos on your 2500 , then i think you'll be losing a lot of work flow benefits by going to the 2000. hope your 2500 comes back in ship shape condition!
  17. have you tried doing a factory reset? hold down the erase key when you power it up- and keep holding until the main screen appears.
  18. There is a couple of ways of testing if the 1000 has new pads. The new pads are all in one sheet, so if you try to move a pads up/down left/right you should see adjacent pads wiggling a little too. The other way is too pinch the bottom corner of one of the bottom corner pads you should be able to poke out the corner from the case, its easy to poke it back in (oyou could do it with the top corner of the top corner pads too) .You wont be able to do this with the old pads. Ive got an mpc60 and an mpc100, I've used the 2000,2000xl and the 2500 too. In my opinion the 1000 is the one to go for (with new pads). Look into the JJOS which adds many features (including some of the features listed as 2000xl only in that list above).Sample chopping with that os is a dream. http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/ The mpc forums website can be useful : http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewforum.php?f=25 pm me if you want too, i love mpc's and have been using them for years.
  19. That battle was amazing! I had condensation forming on my records cause there was so many hot and sweaty punters crammed into that venue.. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sUEe4TMlcg ! ) I decided to do the battle cause I've had mad delays with my album coming out .I finished it last October and was originally hoping to have it out after new year and do some mpc/turntables/instruments/loop pedal shows . That's all on hold now until the album drops. The good thing about it is it gave me a bit of time at the end of April to put a set together for this. I wanted to do something that had that battle energy but without compromising what I would normally create musically . In that regard I feel happy and I appreciate all the positive feedback, whether that's for my old routines or for this battle (thanks for the vote Le Jad!) Here's my routine for those that haven't seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NplGajY3G7c does anyone know who'll be judging? I also thought results were due in next week but on the b4b site voting continues until may 20?
  20. Hello one and all, just registered and this my first post! Shout out to Mister Ed and Loop !-its been a while since i've seen you guys. hows things? To be honest, I didnt know that there was a strictly no freestyle rule either, and like Muzzell, I was impressed by the technical standard of some of the more freestyle entries. Me and Sinical both thought that the Fakser guy from Italy had some really sick technical patterns.I really liked Mr Brown's too, really soulful. All the best to those still in the battle, and everyone who contributed dope videos too.
