  1. dayum, thats one sweet piece of kit! got a nice 80's seperates styling to it too... i'm very impressed
  2. i use a maya 44usb - has 4 phono ins and 4 phono outs, ultra low latency and very good sound quality, got it cheapest from www.makingwavesaudio.co.uk - perfect for use with www.djdecks.be
  3. thanks guys! info like this is really useful. what do you htink about buying new systems off ebay? i bought my desktop new off there a few years ago, but theres just so much choice and variation in price! hard to know what is a bargain and what isnt what do you think about this system from ebuyer? is a bit under budget so i can afford to get a dock etc for it. seems to be much better value for money than most other systems i've looked at, any pitfalls i've overlooked? thanks again!
  4. ok, i know there's been a lot of threads in this vein recently, but basically i have about £750 to spend on a new notebook and need some advice i plan to dual boot it, with one install for general word processing, internet browsing tasks, and the other install for running DjDecks, and production software (currently using acid and nuendo but that seems to change by the minute ) what i want to know is: any specific recommendations of current good deals or specific models you have good experience with? is it really worth going for a mobile processor (turion/centrino)? is a 1.6ghz or so mobile processor going to give a similar performance to a 3 ghz or so standard processor? should i go for 64 bit? i basically want to be as "future-proof" (to coin a dell term ) as possible, so i want 1gb of ram as decent a processor as i can get for the money good enough graphics to potentially run games (although this isnt a priority) and basically a well built machine that runs well i'm not worried about screen size (i'm actually quite tempted to go for one of the really compact 12" ones) as i have an 18" tft monitor which i can dock when at home, and i already have a maya 44 usb so sound isnt a problem right, get advising!
  5. yeah, the aebersold stuff is good, it tends to be in stereo left channel=drums and bass and right channel = piano or some variation so you can remove certain parts to play along with my absolute FAVOURITE jazz record of all time has to be grover washington juniors "all the kings horses" album, that is just jazz perfection for me! but yeah, i guess theyre right, listen to some jazz in its "proper" form (buy it on vinyl, don't download), once you get an appreciation of a certain style you will connect to it and find the rhythms a lot easier to comprehend

  7. get down to your local car boot sale! you can pick up a set of decent speakers and nan amp for £20
  8. SNOOP DOGG!! does no-one else realise he raps about complete nonsense? back in the day he was gimmicky enough to pull it off, and dre's beats were sweet, but now his flow and lyrics are just crap. if it wasnt for the neptunes he would've died off years ago.
  9. the sony ones break and aren't the best value for money anyway. the sennheiser hd25 are kinda industry standard and are brilliant, the cheaper model is the hd25sp which iirc are pretty sweet also. i use a pair of hd-280's, very nice sounding, good and loud, if a bit big, and they have a very high level of sound isolation so can get them off amazon.com (not .co.uk unfortunately) for about £70, otherwise i think they are a touch over £100 in the uk at last check... otherwise, i've heard pretty good things about the pioneer hdj-1000s, although im yet to try them out myself. for djing you can't go wrong with the hd25's or the hd25sp's, although you may want to pay less than that...
  10. this is freakin' awesome
  11. just looks like a rather nasty skin for xp! come on microsoft, where are the 3d operating systems you control with powergloves? raise your game!
  12. you're talking about ok computer dee? for me it's so good just because of the range of moods throughout the album and i find i can connect with the melodies. you'll notice i didn't use the term "greatest album of all time" in my post, but i know many consider it to be. to be cliché, the sonic landscape of it is just so immense, all the layered guitar parts on paranoid android for instance, theres new bits in that song to me each time i listen. favourite track is exit music, track 4. and the hollow comment was a pisstake of a typical radiohead fan i assume you realised
  13. i love it when i'm right all i've got to say is, if you don't like ok computer you are a hollow shell of a person. different strokes and all that
  14. holy crap!!!!! I'd seen this guy's name mentioned about a bit and thought "oh, he's probably just more indie trendy rubbish". Well i've just checked out his new album "digital ashes and digital urn" and it is the best song writing i've heard... ever! i dunno, i'm a huge radiohead fan and have always considered ok computer to be my favourite album, but i'd say this is on par in my mind! anyway, just pointless rambling, most of you probably hate this music anyway
  15. don't know how well this would go down in london nowadays...

    N64 pads

wouldnt the c arrows take the place of the right analog stick?
  17. yup! i use battery on my pc instead, but a mpc1000 should work fine
  18. it seems electrix are releasing a new repeater (the mk2, bottom of this page: link), i remember when the first one came out it was very highly thought of... should be the most "dj friendly" piece of kit, has a footswitch available and it's midi controllable, has auto bpm detection etc
  19. digitech pedals have very good sound quality, i a/b'ed the boss and digitech delay pedals and the digitech definately came out on tops, wouldnt be surprised if this was much better than the rc20xl
  20. on the kit i have at the moment you can't import or sample sounds, but drums wise the sounds are spot on, and for the v-sounds you can adjust drum depth, head type, tuning, decay etc for each individual drum, plus you can make up your own kits from the sounds provided. if you are keen to trigger your own samples however, this can be done very easily with midi.
  21. i currently have in my possession a roland td8kv, and it's fantastic! i believe with the monitors the lot cost my mate £2300 brand new, but it would not be wise to go for anything any less than this. this kit has mesh pads for drums instead of hard rubber pads, which i personally find unplayable. Roland are definately the best commercial manufacturer of electric kits, it does everything you want. only gripe is that the hi hats are a bit unnatural to play (hard pad with remote pedal). if you can stretch a bit above $3000, you will be satisfied for life with this kit: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=141...ase_pid/449925/ it has proper hihats on a stand which respond a lot better, the sound modulae is improved, and the snare and cymbals are also higher spec than the kit im currently borrowing all that said, i'm very keen to get hold of an acoustic kit, as this definately does not offer the same playing experience.
  22. that's very interesting... the beat can't be removed just using a frequency filter because the vocals are similar frequency range to the drums... would be interested to find out how he managed it!
