  1. I put together this little Christmas Compilation for anyone that's interested. http://www.mediafire.com/?2dpr7pd6816kdoi Enjoy!
  2. Check out our Christmas episode! https://soundcloud.com/music_school/christmas
  3. Man, she might be my favourite lady singer ever. Sad news.
  4. I updated the first post with the most recent show. I guess I'll continue to do that in the future but without bumping the thread. Holla!
  5. I agree with you guys re: "the N word", I just mean that when you see someone lean on it a bit too heavily it can be kind of cringeworthy. Particularly if it's a Swedish guy or something. I've never seen an instance where I felt it was malicious, just kind of unself-aware. Also, You should totally do this.
  6. Cheers man! Let me know what you think. (Unless you think it's completely shit in which case please don't let me know what you think!) It's super fun to do, and it's beyond easy. All you need is something to play music off and some mics (if you want to use mics). Colin uses something called nicecast for mac to broadcast it, which I know nothing about. He does a few different shows but I think you might be able to do what we do for free. You should totally do it! You and Dopp could do an awesome show!
  7. Yea that's it basically, the part where I lock the loop fucks up like half the time live because when you make a short loop like that and push the record it randomly jumps out of the loop forwards into a different part of the song... and that's if I do it cleanly in the first place, that's hard enough even without Serato dropping the ball. Word, I like Gimme what you got too but it's not really a battle juggle, it could be maybe but I haven't figured out an impact ending really... I do that routine at showcases sometimes tho. Word, that's a shame. Still a crazy juggle either way! You think Gimme What you Got isn't a battle juggle? For me I feel like it would be my "Netik Ms. Jade" routine on a given dvd, i.e. the really musical, funky, enjoyable to listen to one that I'd return to again and again. Also technical with those pitch shifting pushes. But then I have absolutely no idea what judges are looking for. I guess you're the champ for a reason! I just felt Odilon's track selection more than anyone else, he was comparatively musical and listenable, and not wack at all. I feel like someone ticking all the boxes technically and sounding horrible shouldn't beat someone ticking only some of those boxes but sounding good. No disrespect to Rufftone, who's obviously extremely dope, but he has a few of those moving-through-the-track type juggles which I don't personally dig for some reason. Lol didn't Odillion use something along the lines of 'laugh at the short-dicked man' as his ending diss in the finals, it was a strangely worded diss! haha yea that stuff bugs me... it's just really hard to take seriously He played a portion of this didn't he? I mean, the diss was odd but I think the song itself accounts for most of the syntax issues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wNx1CBym7s Also, overuse of "the n word" by white dudes in battles can be strange.
  8. Haha, thanks a lot man! Today's episode going live in two minutes!
  9. https://soundcloud.com/music_school My friend Colin and I have recently started broadcasting an internet radio show every Sunday night at 9 GMT. It's called Music School, each week we play music inspired by a different secondary school subject. Neither of us is a dj in any way, shape or form, so it's just us playing tunes off itunes and doing our best to be a bit funny in between. There's every chance that it's terrible, I really have no idea, but it's super fun to do. I've really enjoyed researching the topics, even though I usually just end up playing music I already liked. Anyway, these are the two episodes we've done so far: Science: http://soundcloud.com/music_school/science Home Economics: http://soundcloud.com/music_school/home-economics French: https://soundcloud.com/music_school/french-1 Art: https://soundcloud.com/music_school/art Christmas: https://soundcloud.com/music_school/christmas History: https://soundcloud.com/music_school/history This is our facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Music-School/174000406077444
  10. Also, for my own personal taste, whatever that's worth, Vekked v Odilon should've been the final. I thought he was really dope. I also liked the Brazillian guy whose name I can't recall, he wasn't the most technical but had some good ideas I thought.
  11. I think your anxiety about sounding like everyone else if you practice a certain way is kind of unfounded. I used to feel the same way, I didn't want to learn boomerangs because I didn't want to sound like everyone else that just does boomerangs and swing flares all day (and because it's hard). Also I'm a lot like you in that I really don't enjoy drilling scratches, 99% of my scratching time is spent freestyling and seeing what I come up with and I like it that way. But after a year or so of devoting just the tiniest bit of focus into learning boomerangs I can now somewhat do them a little bit, and I don't think I'm in danger of sounding like everyone else. They're a very useful scratch in that they allow you a lot of clicks for very little record movement and have just opened up untold possibilities for ways I can incorporate them into my own style and combine them with other things. I've gotten over all my misgivings about scratching this year, any time I feel bad about I just remind myself that I love it and that's why I do it. I have nothing to prove to anyone, just making sure I continue to enjoy this thing I enjoy is my only priority. But this has also been the first year I've put any effort whatsoever into scratching and I've found it's repaid massive dividends. Also ahhh & fresh 4evz
  12. Vekked, you've dropped the crazy part of your Ray Ban Vision juggle, just too hard to nail live? Also, you should do that Gimme What you Got juggle, that shit is fresh!
  13. Results: 4th place - Richie Rufftone 3rd place - Dj Odilon 2nd place - Dj Topic 1st place - Vekked! Congrats homie! What an incredible year!
  14. Vekked in the finals y'all, against Topic! Stream here btw: http://ww.klubarka.pl/ida.html
  15. Vekked in the semis y'all! In first place so far! And rightly so imo.
  16. Netik's Ms. Jade routine from the 2002 finals is one of my favourite juggles ever. So dope.
  17. Also, Heavy Metal in Baghdad is amazing. Heartbreaking and infuriating.
  18. Steve, I'd love to see the Kane and Fat Boys ones. Especially the Fat Boys, I love the Fat Boys and just realised I know absolutely nothing about them. Rock Well, if you could do that it would be literally the best thing that ever happened to me in my life. I've always found mediafire reliable for that kind of thing, I don't think they have a size restriction. Do concert films count as documentaries? Beastie Boys, Awesome I Fuckin' Shot That is the GOAT imo.
  19. There's one called Icons Among Us: Jazz in the Present Tense which I really enjoyed. We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen is awesome and anything on the making of Paul Simon's Graceland is fascinating imo, including the Classic Albums about it. All those are, or at least were, on Netflix. Does anyone know where I can download that Good Life documentary? A bunch of my favourite rappers came out of there (Busdriver, Myka 9, NoCanDo). I can't wait to see it. *edit* Steve, Unsung sounds amazing!
  20. Oh shit! I knew you had a world title in you! Unreal!
