  1. I got mine from specsavers - they were meant to be 180 bit I got them for 130. The woman there said there was no difference in price but I was worried I'd get the cheaper ones which were just for protection rather than for musicians so I pointed out the prices in the brochure She went very pale cos she'd just told me she'd kitted out the entire Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with the 180 quid ones at 130 quid a piece - ouch! Fair do's she still gave me them for 130.... but I digress... I got some moulded ER9 plugs, which give 9db reduction across the frequency spectrum, whereas cheaper ones cut more highs than lows (which is why they sound muffled). They still take a bit of the hi-end sparkle off but after a while wearing them in a club I find myself taking them out to make sure they are still in... they are that transparent you can sometimes forget you've got them in. ER15 (or 23 etc)will give you more protection but you can't really perform with them in, it's a bit too weird sounding IMO... ER9s give you enough protection in a club (as long as your head's not in a speaker) and you can still hear clearly enough to mix and that. Specsavers told me I could swap the filters if I wanted to within a week which is pretty cool - and you can buy different filters for about 50 notes anyway (you can pop them in and out...) Take it from someone who used to be deaf... it's well worth the money!
  2. I scratch as often as being away from home 3 or 4 nights a week and having a girlfriend allows. I do it because it relaxes me mentally and physically and I like the sound of it, but I also like learning techniques because it's engaging enough to stop me thinking about work stuff but still gives by head a break! It's just a hobby at the end of the day
  3. that's because there's not much good hip hop around these days. I've only heard 2 things I like in the last year that are even vaguely hip hop, but then I don't see why you should stick to a certain style anyway cos that not creative either I consider the current 'beats movement' to be good evidence of good hiphop alive and well Granted it was a quick post from my phone, but the point I was trying to make is that you can't just blame the change in style in the DMCs on le jad or the "Euro" sound. If the hop hop scene was as big as it used to be there would be more "traditional" hip hop in the DMCs which might get Foly interested again. Personally I don't use much hip hop cos I don't hear much I like these days, probably because all the hip hop nights I used to go to have stopped, the record shops have closed, and I find trawling the internet for music soul destroying. I don't use much "Euro" stuff either but if there's bits I like I will, I'm not arsed whether or not I'm using the "right" kind of music or not - I just do it for my own enjoyment :-)

  5. nice one - is there anyone through under 30 yet? what were the other placings?
  6. Asian Hawk was UK champ 2006, and 2nd place 05 and 07. He's from my crew The Disablists . . What the fuck hes doing coming third in a regional tho I dont know . . I know exactly who he is man I have competed against him twice! He's a good DJ and seems a nice chap. I was agreeing with mattnice in that its the same old dj's entering this comp every year now. Its not necessarily a bad thing it would just be nice to see someone come with something fresh. in saying that I have not heard any of the sets this year I might be pleasantly suprise but of late its been the same old...same old. I remember AH's sets being waaay more creative than others in the past though! Good luck to him! you callIng me old you Ginger twatbasket?
  7. 1) Rasp (I told you he'd go through to the final) 2) Killer Tomato 3) Asian Hawk
  8. I don't know that, I quite often work out what I would call "scratch routines" that are just scratches with aahhh. I'd assume the words "routine" and "freestyle" normally relate to how planned something is, but through my very limited french I gather on b4b they have slightly different meanings, maybe to do with how many samples are used but I'm not sure... Liek you say - it wasn't clear in the rules hence the kerfuffle
  9. Only 5, probably cos it was a Wednesday, but the standard was good...
  10. Woop woop! 1) Jonathan 1 Movathon 2) Rasp 3) Dr Weevil. Not as well attended as last year but still a good final - the crowd seemed to be into the whole battle thing which was pretty cool P-Nuts (who's just joined here) had a good showing for a first ever heat... obviously really nervous but he pulled it off and was clearly buzzing afterwards. I reckon he'll be winning heats before too long. Doctor Weevil was funky as ever with frantic cuts and some great beat juggles Rasp was dope as usual but this year his routine has got a whole new level of intensity, load of bass heavy hip hop bassnectar style with trademark rasp scattergun cuts and spot on vocal drops. I'm sure he's gonna make the final too. Woodys AV thing was ace - it's a bit odd seeing a dancefloor full of people staring hypnotically at the visuals - really good show... worth going to a DMC heat just for that I reckon :-)
  11. what's the difference between a routine or freestyle in this context?
  12. Any of you cuntbuckets entering? More than welcome to chill at mine and practice if you're travelling over
  13. Been mad busy since moving house in October and work's been intense since Christmas...
  14. It's Bassnectar - Underground Communication, you should check out Bassnectar if you don't know his stuff already. To be honest I though I was nearly there with last year's DMC, I used the first 3 minutes for this but the crowd pleasing bits (mission impossible / on a ragga tip) are all in the last 2 minutes... I think for next years DMC I need to combine the technical and crowd pleasing more. I've got a very technical mind (physics degree / IT consultant) and like the technical side of scratching so most of the time I'm just practicing new techniques then think about tunes / routine when it gets close to competition time. @Loop - I didn't ask anyone to vote for me cos I wouldn't have been ready for Poland so I can hold my head high knowing that the 3 people who voted for me did so for the right reasons ;-) Vote whore
  15. I bought a playstation (one) with my then flatmate and he insisted on getting Tekken. I'm not really into fighting games so I used to always pick Eddy Gordo and do the same move over and over again and win the cheats way. He had a mate at uni who did the same who was called Johnny so he called my style "Johnny 1 Move tactics" When I got my first gig in Liverpool I fancied a new DJ name so I used that, the next day someone asked me if I was Johnny 1 Move and said that it was a really memorable name so I kept it. When I started playing breaks out I used "Micky Fun" as thats what the people who ran the night called me, but when I was playing a few gigs a month with each persona it got confusing so I dropped one. I even had a promoter once phone me up to book "Johnny" then said he was going to try and book "Micky" too and asked if I had his phone number!
  16. Are these the ones you want loopermerating?
  17. yep, just give me the idea, the files and images. I've only done one before but it turned out ok :-)
  18. pretty good actually. ive made a semi-decent amount of money. ahh maybe. if someone makes me a looper, sure. i'm loo lazy to put one together lol. Find a picture and send me the philes and I'll turn it into a looper for you
  19. Take the faders apart and push a cotton bud through the holes that the rails slide through - make sure you get any gunk out. That should stop it binding when you push/pull up or down. It's unlikely you need new ones unless they're actually broken
  20. ah right - cheers for saving me a tenner!
  21. Is that only on premium? I tried "bassnectar" and spotify only came up with 16 bassnectar tracks whereas last fm starts playing kraddy / tipper / glitch mob etc + bassnectar and loads of stuff I've never heard of! If sptofy premium can do that I'll happily pay for premium, but in a way I'm funding people cos of lastfm as I go and buy stuff I like
