  1. nah it was only 1 post when you had your johnson on show
  2. I appreciate the attention. Please rate out of 10 I'd have to see it au naturel to be sure but maybe 5?
  3. but more seriously... it might sound a bit wierd... but instead of trying to forcibly push the record the record try just resting your hand on the record then moving your hand. you should find that the record moves just as readily cos it's stuck to your fingers but there's less force / tension in your hand so it'll feel more natural.
  4. Raise your decks Mainly so we don't have to stare at your cock bulge on your vids
  5. Lube and credit card mod it and it's not too bad
  6. I try to avoid having 2 tunes full volume at the same time unless one of them is just has vocals or synths on it, 2 beats at full volume usually sounds wrong even if they're perfectly beatmatched IMO. Also, you don't generally want the mixing bits to be louder / denser than the rest, the tunes already have song structure so the overall mix will usually flow better if you can make the mixes subtler, unless you've got some highlight / trick mixes worked out that you know flow well
  7. It's impossible to know all your tunes well enough to mix everything perfectly everytime so I tend to know everything well enough to mix well but then have a few go to mixes that I know inside out. Having certain practiced mixes to changes style / tempo / impress everyone has always worked well for me. A lot of people ignore the channel faders when mixing, but if you want to do longer smooth mixes, especially with hip hop, they're vital IMO.... you can get away with things drifting or clashing a bit if one of the channels is down. I normally bring the new tune in at, say, 3/4 volume, then work it up to full while I'm working the other tune down to 3/4, then take the other tune out. That way you can do nice long smooth mixes without it being too abrasive. If you don't know your tunes that well you get chance to realise it's about to drop wrong and start again, without it being obvious because the tune you just aborted wasn't at full volume yet... You often see people reaching for the EQs to do that kind of thing rather than using the volumes, but to my ears it just sounds like two badly EQd tunes being mixed...
  8. ... But I should say apart from those niggles they're really good
  9. They're pretty good... Nice buttons... Fit really well on technics. Not sure about the putty if you take them off/ put them on a lot. There's a couple of small things I don't like though... Here's an email I sent to gizmo explaining my gripes: - If your mixer faceplate is even slightly higher than your deck then the faceplate pushes up on the mini-jack on the right dicer so it doesn't stay put very well. I had to unscrew the feet on my technics somewhat to stop this happening with an 08... they should've put the sockets on the front - The button layout is crap for one handed use. You can easily hit buttons 1 and 5 with your thumb, 2 and 4 at a stretch but not 3 cos it's too far away. Also, if you're trying to use them like this it's too easy to catch the mode buttons because they're between the edge of the deck and the cue buttons, so you go to hit a cue point to jump from one sample to another when cutting and you end up in loop-roll or something! If the 5 cue buttons where on the long side of the triangle following the curve of the deck, and the mode buttons out of the way in the bottom left corner it would've been so so so much better for turntablists... - The fact that you have to press two buttons simultaneously to access user defined functions in serato really sucks too. It means you can't really do stuff like hit an effect on the last sound of a scratch solo because it's too hit and miss trying to hit both buttons. This should be fixable in software be either allowing user defined mapping on the first 3 buttons sets (although I guess the led feedback is hard-coded in serato rather than midi-mapping as I don't think they have led feedback from midi yet...), or more simply by having a different way of accessing the 'shift' functions like double tapping the mode button or keeping it down for a second.
  10. I could tell you but then I'd have to rape you... I think the bit you mean is a half tug job to 3 click swing to forward, but maybe make up your own combos? Open wide! Reverse 3 click swing moving gradually backward through the sound That's a killer pattern I'd been showing Jon. Sounds really good with drums and individual samples. It's hard to describe... here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL1rMW1MGBM It's pretty tough to get down fast as although its a two clicker the timings different, it's more like doing clicks 2 and 3 from a 3 clicker and skipping click 1 I like the odd long repetition, it's good practice and you can probably see I messed up that pattern just before so I was making sure it was back "in my fingers". Regardless I think there's room for the odd sustained technique as it shows a different thing - stamina! I think the bit you mean is reverse 3 clicks swings but moving the start-point between 2 points in the sample so kind of the same as 2:15 It's all about the fast/sick techniques for me at the minute, all the other stuff will fall into place naturally with my own style when it feels like it.
  11. Flares the easy way: Do constant chirps Every now and then do a forward backward record movement that is double size and takes twice as long to go forward back That's a slow flare, in fact it's slow chirp-flare combos then.. Do constant chirps Every now and then do some double speed fader hand movements Thats a quicker chirp-lfare combo Simples :-)
  12. It'd be easy enough to get a ttm then animate 2 semi-opaque squares over each side to fade out bits so that only the current bit is highlighted take a look at www.johnny1move.co.uk/scratch to get an idea of my current site and to get an idea of which bits you want. At the minut it's like a scratch wiki in it's own right so it'd need a bit of tweaking to get it into the forum
  13. Steve - here's a little vid showing the ttm drawer stuff You can have as much or as little as you want... the full thing sits in a web page + database, but I could take out just the flash app and the renderer if you want them http://www.johnny1move.co.uk/ttmdrawervid.swf
  14. Might be a security thing as it's a php that renders an image. If the .php was on DV instead of my site it would probably allow it to post the image inline, and I could change the flash to spurt out the codes instead of storing them in my database so it would be a quick and easy why of integrating them to DV rather than having to port my whole app over...
  15. http://www.johnny1move.co.uk/scratch/ttm.php?ttsl=0,0:S,1,3,0:O,1,-3,0:S,1,3,0:S,1,-3,0:S,1,5,0:O,1,-3,0:S,1,3,0:S,1,-3,0:S,1,5,0:O,1,-3,0:S,2,-4,1:S,1,3,0:O,1,-3,0:S,1,3,0:S,1,-3,0:S,1,5,0:O,1,-3,0:S,1,3,0:S,1,-3,0:S,1,5,0:O,1,-3 I won't let me embed the picutre, but basically it means you don't have to upload diagrams is you know the code...(click the link to see the ttm render) You don't need to learn the codes cos the flash program just lets you draw the line then stores the codes
  16. I did a ttm drawing flash app anbd a dynamic ttm png drawer a while ago Basically the flash app turns the graph you draw into some co-ordinates and the other bit turns it back into a png on the fly. Makes it dead easy to do ttms.... do you wan't to incorporate it into the forum somehow steve?
  17. Even though I wasn't judging... I had you down for 1st place... cheers brosef! I'm pleased with myself unlike last year and that's the main thing in my book :-)

  20. Is anyone up for lending me and Rasp some decks to practice in the hotel round the corner? I drove down last year but it was a major hassle so I want to get the train but lugging decks down on the train aint really practical!
  21. The forum got more iPhone friendly the other day anyway
  22. Those look exactly the same as mine but I don't they're called sensaphonics, I think they're either ACS or prophonics. might just be us/uk branding thing, but they look the spit i.e the little blue/red dot for left/right and the same colours to differentiate different filter strengths...
