  1. That's what everyone calls autobahns but isn't. Rafik does two patterns on the skratchlopedia DVD... There was a massive post on the Skratchworx forum about it. In the end gizmo emailed rafik about it to clear it up. I've got the ttms for both patterns on my site... "slow autobahns" is proper autobahns and "fast autobahns" is this pattern which I call walking boomerangs cos it's half a boomerang moving through the sound Www.johnny1move.co.uk/scratch That's what everyone calls autobahns but isn't. 2. The point still stands that life is generally easier with an iphone as its too important to apple and other manufacturers for it not to Is there a Novation Automap app for Android? Cubase iC for Android? If you were an app developer / hardware manufacturer and were drawing up a list of phones to cater for you'd most likely have iphone on there, even if you could only afford to make the list one long! I can deal with the stigma of people thinking I'm not in the know cos my life's easier with a phone that is more likely to work with other stuff
  3. We've moved over to iphones at work because of the exchange and office integration which is pretty good. Probably the new windows phones are ok but we're already mostly iphones now. The main reason for switching from blackberry was the ability to read office documents easily on the go ... for me the main advantage is the ubiquitousness of iphones and ipods. You know you're going to be able to hook it up to stuff and it's usually easy to borrow a charger. I like the idea of android phones but as the market share is divided between several manufacturers other equipment is less likely to be as compatible. For example, I was looking for a dab radio alarm clock with an iphone dock and found them all over the place but you don't see them for specific android phones
  4. I've just done it... it was a piece of piss Best bet is to use kakewalk: http://www.kakewalk.se/ Basically the guy who packages it has worked out all the drivers (kexts in mac speak) for a specific list of gigabyte boards so all you need is to get a Snow Leopard disk image, drag kakewalk on to it, choose your motherboard, reboot from usb and install. The other thing that makes life easy is picking a graphics card with a chip that apple used in one of their machines. I went for a cheap ASUS nividia 8400 card and didn't even need to do any of the graphics driver tweaks. It all worked with full graphics acceleration straight away. It even survived the upgrade to OSX 10.5.6 without any messing about. The only thing I haven't tried is the onboard audio which often doesn't work but is easy to fix. My firewire MOTU card works a charm, as does everything else and it's rock solid with cubase and loads of other stuff on the go. In fact it's more stable then the windows machine I took all the parts (except mothboard and graphics card) from. Give me a bell if you want any advice
  5. I really like this looper - good selection of tempos too
  6. The first time is quite quick but after that it takes him 30 odd seconds... that aint quick. knowing your records and training your ears makes it quicker
  7. I can try!...its easier than it looks. Basically its a variation on a walking boomerang / fast autobahn so it probably easiest to start with that then switch it about.. If you think of a walking boomerang as slice, forward transform, slice, backwards transform and repeat, then you just reverse it, then switch the slice positions then tazer it Thinking about it again it also OG flares starting on the backstroke, the first back stroke goes from the end to the start of the sound then during the rest of the first one and the second one you work back through the sound. I can't do it slowy though so I can't do a video break down :-s
  8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3eG0llPfio Is this the combo you're after?
  9. Finally got to have a go... think I was over complicating it... When I try and do this... ...it looks and sounds right. .. but maybe that's not what I'm actually doing... hard to tell :-)
  10. That ttm I posted with a drill is a jackhammer... You can drill any slice in a combo pretty easily once you've got the hang of it
  11. The key bit I could pick out on the first one after 34 secs was the long backwards lazer that hits on beat then off beat then off beat. I think the rest of the record motion is about right from following the dot on the vinyl, but I think I stacked the start cos the long back sounds seems to start close like a normal tazer I think you're right about the 5 sounds and that it's two clicks so how about the third attempt I've added...? : The click pattern is regular 2 click, the long back stroke is every 3/4 beat, and it's 5 sounds so it should sound about right... fuck knows without the decks to try it on though!
  12. Sat in a hotel so I can't try this out but I'm thinking something like this: I've done a two click and three click version which would sounds about the same but the way he builds up to it makes me think the 2 click version is more likely. In the description he describes it as like a boomerang which fits with this ttm as its the forwards part of a "start open" boomerang to get back to the end of the sample ready for the next tazer ("start open" boomerang is the second bit on this ttm): Give it a go and let me know - I'll try and work it out better at the weekend if that's not it...
  13. Typically jarg skratchlo description but I'm pretty sure this is the first combo before he starts doing other stuff... basically the "fast atuobahn" but only 2 parts instead of 3 and a drill at the start
  14. Got one on Friday mainly cos my missus wanted it and i fancied an xbox anyway Once you've calibrated it it's fairly accurate and kinect sports is surprisingly good Dance central is a good laugh too
  15. it's the tits and it'll be even better when it gets vst hosting...
  16. it's hard to tell cos of all the scratches and footprints on most of my records but I don't think it wears them much more. Height: get the bottom of the cartridge level with the record Weight: about 3.5
  17. the angle's supposedly 23 i think? - a straight line from the centre tonearm base through the cart... I think straight tonearms are shorter so it might not be 23 degrees but pointing directly away from the pivot point is the charm
  18. Fuck moaning on t'interweb!
  19. Rasp doesn't post much on forums and he always finds something to enjoy in even the worst of sets. You won't find a humbler skratcher
  20. That's what I was thinking- do boxes exist that let you convert two rcas into 4 rcas? so you get two sets of stereo outputs of the same signal? cheap solution: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=9662 Depending on your mixer it might nadger the sound a bit but normally not so much you'd notice unless you're using doubles and only one deck is running through a spliiter (depends on the input impedance of your mixer)
