  1. If your mate said this to you down the pub after one too many, you'd be like "WTF are you talking about you pissed up cunt?", but nobody calls out folks like this in interviews. KRS-One is probably the worst, but there has to be more examples...... great point. that shit really annoys me. Obviously Rza is clever in a huge amount of ways, beat maker, getting shit done, built a great career. but yes that sentence is a load of wanky attempts at being profound to describe your own amazing intelligence. plop if he was challenged on that sentence, there would be a claim that it's all secret shit, or it would be a stuttery continuation of horeshit vagueness. I can't actually bring myself to watch any further.
  2. once or twice a year serato usually have a sale and the whole suite of expansion packs is half price so around €150 or so. I bought it a few years ago, it contains DJ Pro, Play, DVS, Video, FX, Flip & Pitch ‘n Time DJ. i haven't gone deep with much of it, but obviously pitch n time works well. I've just had my first go fucking around with Video which was a bit of a laugh, messing with videos of the cat and university challenge.... I've been meaning to have a play with flip, just to make some basic edits, extending intros etc...
  3. Yeah obviously the song titles fit, and the rhythm of it, but yeah a few tweaks with the key might make it sit better.
  4. Just made a quick recording of this one that i stumbled on live at a gig one night years ago. Ludacris - Southern Hospitality (Remix with Ms Dynamite) x Prodigy - Poison. It's quite drawn out, but i like it. The "Hit By" in the middle isn't really the best phrase to do the scratching with, so i might see how i can improve it, maybe doing some effects stuff or something instead (plus my cuts are currently wack...) also it's using the full version and not the acapella which i like as in spots i bring the bass & instrumentation back in and then out again, but maybe it gets crowded in spots. I have another blend that I love, but it requires the Foreign Beggars - Frosted Perspeks acapella that I can't find on the net, so will have to grab the 12" next time i'm back at my Dad's house (he's currently using it for a routine obviously..)
  5. https://bid.omegaauctions.co.uk/m/view-auctions/catalog/id/70/?page=1&items=1000&mc_cid=944872bc47&mc_eid=4121e2b551 just finished but they auctioned off loads of lots of vinyl and collectibles... This is obviously only probably scratching the surface of all the stuff he's collected over the years.
  6. best of luck dan man, that can't be easy. I don't mind chipping in too on the site. But Steve, does it actually take up much of your time having to admin/mod/do shit relating to it? do the other mods have to do much work? or does shit tick along without much bother?
  7. 70s for me. Prog (although some of the best prog shit was in 69) Black Sabbath. Good 70s Rock Fusion And I just pretty much prefer how records sounded. although if only Iron maiden had popped out that first album or 2 before 1980 and i'd be in heaven.
  8. I had never used a streaming service until a trial of Spotify last year. Which I ended up not ever using. Although just before Christmas there was an offer for TIDAL for 4 months for 4 quid or so. So i did it. I've been using it fuck all, but the main reason I gave it a try is, it integrates with Serato. I've been gigging a lot recently where this would actually come in handy. I havent actually activated it in Serato yet, but looking forward to seeing if it works well. TIDAL is a little more expensive at 9.99 for normal, and 19.99 for premium, which is FLAC quality. But the library seems to be on a par with Spotify from what I can gather. But supposedly Spotify has by far the better recommendations algorithms
  9. STOMP STEVE! they're called stomp! They're the Tannoy/Hoover of "dancers who bang dustbin lids together"
  10. second this, now on to the Tony Prince one! Interesting interview, fair play to Tony (Prince..) never actually knew that he started mixmag. ....or that he was responsible for the fall of communism
  11. REAAAAALLLLYYY looking forward to watching this. I remember when i started getting interested in scratching asking a chap at school who was a hiphop head, and he told me about the scratch perverts, and found the BBoys revenge CD when we were on a school tour. and my life changed. That Rockin it Intro! ...then we shall discuss Kela's fashion choices over the last few years. Hipster S Thompson.
  12. surely they're just about looking 'cool'? you may as well go full arsehole and get one of these..
  13. i had a background playing guitar and drums and stuff, so i think i caught on quite quickly. came 2nd in the Irish DMCs (and 3rd in the Euro ITF) about 3 years in. although meeting Lewis (James) at about year 2 depressed but also inspired me, he was cutting longer but was infinitely better than me. I was a fucking nerd though, like full on. knew more about scratching, techniques, DMCs and ITFs than anyone i knew. I still have a great collection of vids and DVDs... i kinda researched more than i practiced, but when i did i took to things quickly enough. My peak routine wise was between 2004-2006, I genuinely still really like most of my routines, none of them follow the same formula, i think they're pretty original. My peak scratching was probably about 2007-8 when i was hooking up regularly with Djackulate and Moschops and we played with a drummer. But then when it comes to actually being a DJ, I learned a lot from 2012-2014 when i was playing regular nights in Argentina, it was a ridiculous bar, lots of expats, dancing on the bar, staff waterpistol-ing vodka into the crowds mouths. I learned how to deal with people just looking for cheese and being demanding, but being able to win them over without selling my soul completely... Although i remember once i left a long tune on when i legged it for a piss, and when i was in there i heard the music changed.... one of the fucking barmen had put on LMFAO before i got back, i was fucking furious... (yes i'm sorry that it was even on my laptop, but it was requested at a party i played at my former bosses house...) and then playing openformat style stuff at amazing huge organized house parties, where the crowds were open minded, loved a bit of scratching, and i was able to mix every genre that i loved and keep them dancing. GOD I MISS THOSE GIGS. Now i'm back playing regular nights, and I feel i'm still learning more about the flow of a night and about understanding the crowd. before i play somewhere I do a lot of research. And i think i'm the best wedding DJ in the world. and the most modest. Although now i'm currently embarrassed by my cuts, but playing these gigs is helping me in a lot of ways, so i'm actually touching my turntables more, so hopefully the cuts will improve. (I've never posted a freestyle cuts video.... ever!) This is waaaaaay too long
  14. Google Pixel 3a? stock android. Review are really good, i think it's around $399 and maybe 450 for the XL might actually get one myself Or i would hunt down a One Plus 6T
  15. I know a few people who've moved to recordbox over serato recently. It's probably somewhat due to the convenience if you're someone who uses CDJs as well as DVS. If i was looking for a budget DVS setup i'd go for the pioneer-djm-250mk2 300 quid for the standard recordbox one or 500 for the serato version (DJM-S3) there's no curve adjust knob, just a 3 settings switch, but it's a magvel, like the s9, so it's probably quite good. the s9 is probably my favourite ever fader... granted, the djm250 one doesn't have the tension control https://www.thedjshop.co.uk/pioneer-djm-250mk2-dj-mixer-with-effects.html I haven't had a go on it, but I can't imagine how that isn't an amazing deal.
  16. i like this... cheers for sharing! found this too.
  17. Dope vid, well done man! so you're an Icon now?
  18. got any results for us? don't see anything up on their twitter or FB pages.
  19. thats such a good performance of that song. everything. he nails the perfectly suited cuts. her vocals, the drum sound... class
  20. I'm sure it's not sneakiness DMC are trying to facilitate, but that shouldn't really happen. Especially as you go to the trouble of taking your stuff down and making sure no one internationally can have a good luck at your routine. But i guess they have limited "faces" that they're willing to pay travel for.
  21. HAHA. i'm actually not going now. I'd love to be but can't make it. Moschops might be there being brilliant.
  22. sorry to interrupt your chat with yourself. what mixer are you using with them? have you pressure purchased a Gold RANE DMC mixer off a down on their luck former champion? If I spent enough time actually figuring out my s9 and knowing what i could actually do, i'd throw my dicers back on for some extra buttonage. but yeah one of the nanos, or some other slim one is probably the best option actually is there not a way to just click the Midi button and assign the plus and minus buttons here. (bottom left) this is without mixer or controller added, as i'm away from my equipment.
