  1. https://www.islainstruments.com/product/s2400/ So what prompted me to come see if DV was still around was getting one of these. I've decided i want to see out my days just sampling some vinyl and making short tracks for fun. I'm still very much learning it but its mental, everything I wanted and more I'll probably not use. Also, in response to Deft, thinking of getting a MasterSounds Radius mk2 rotary mixer. For the killer EQ and so i can mix all my dnb vinyl i kept hold of.

  2. first thing done in Cubase in a while. I remember being shit at bass so thought I'd try make a bass heavy track minimal track. Dunno what genre it is but its all TB 303 emulators so I guess its some sort of 130 bpm acid.

  3. Hehe, indeed. Gonna wire it up tomorrow with an Arduino to do some quick/initial testing and impressions. So far I'm in the "I like it" boat. The scratch feels nice (even better after some cleaning/lube) and there's soooo much additional room to play with after that. Also feels really solid with the beefy rails too. My daily driver has been a Rane Mag fader (not the Mag four) and it feels a bit rickety/wobbly with the parallel thin rails.

  5. I miss the old school Alps faders with the long cut-in time — it makes for funkier cuts, IMO. The new school faders are cool, but it's more on/off, even after adjusting the cut-in time. I feel like you can accomplish better/stronger stabs and chirp variations with the Alps faders. Essentially, I think Alps faders lend themselves to more of a gray area in between the cuts, and therefore not just black and white in terms of sound. Just listen to old school Qbert and DJ Shadow tracks and you'll know what I'm on about.

  7. Managed to find an Alps K-Series that is 10k linear. Holy moly it's big (100mm)! Even though the 60mm Alps enclosure is only a touch longer than the 45mm, I have lined up the throws so you can see where they all end up. I wonder if *over double* the throw of the 45mm is too much, but if I'm gonna go in for a penny, may as well go in for a pound... I have to say that even with the generic lube/grease on it, the 100mm Alps feels quite nice. If I rock the enclosure back and forth the fader will go from edge-to-edge. Will take it apart and clean/lube it with some proper fader lube, but I'm hopeful.

  8. thats enlightening. I watch these guys - https://www.youtube.com/@RKG/featured their whole thing is that one of them is good but doesnt play, he just knows the lore inside out, one is there for banter and rory (the player) is shit at dark souls type games so its basically him being an idiot. mostly its funny, but also sometimes its 2 hours of him trying to beat a boss. and thats edited down, i think it actually takes all day. I think this too. like for fun and stuff i get it, especially the social side of it all. but like we're saying, if its taking hours / days / weeks to progress then I'd rather put my time into something else. and i dont even have kids or anything!

  9. free to download here - Patreon seems to compress the image which degrades the quality so make sure to expand the image then right click and select open image in a new tab then right click to save file from that image otherwise it comes out all pixelated - https://www.patreon.com/djchile

  11. This looks great! It's in early access at the moment on Steam, and it's apparently a bit rough around the edges, but I have no doubt it'll be really good when it's finished. It's from the same devs that made the Ori games. What I really like is that it has drop-in/drop-out online co-op for up to 4 people, so you can play through the game with friends or go solo. No release date has been set for the full launch.

  13. back to splatoon. one of the best things about doing matches on the wiiU is the squid mini game that you play on the hand held while waiting to set up a match. i wish i got some matches in before they took the server down.

  14. 360s are easy to get your hands on. i got 2 of them. i got one of the OG models with the clip on hard drive for the kids. then later on i found a slim version with the wifi built in. Got it at the goodwill. under $100 and it came with red dead and halo reach. i dont play the xboxes that much. but i dont play anything that much anymore.

  16. The Xbox 360 marketplace shuts down on June 29th too. You'll still be able to buy backwards compatible Xbox 360 and OG Xbox games via the regular MS Store, but you'll no longer be able to buy digital Xbox 360 games that are not backwards compatible. You will be able to re-download stuff you've already bought.

  17. I hear ya. Been trying to get more depth to my bass and more interesting drum patterns. Easier said than done... at least for me!

  18. Did you see Apple apparently filed a patent modifying AirPods with electrodes that can read you mind. There have been some advancement in this type of tech and it's definitely not ready for prime time but they are getting out in front of it nonetheless.

  20. rotary mixers are fun. its a different experience than traditional battle mixers. I got a cheap one by subzero which is a cheaper clone of the omnitronic rotary mixers. Im sure the sound quality is not up to par as the master sounds but it sounds just as good if not better than my rane 72. i only paid about $300 for that subzero rotary. but i only pull it out maybe twice a year. so I couldnt see spending the pricey amounts for the boutique rotaries.

  23. Not DJ-related, but a pretty cool, albeit expensive record player. Shame you can't swap the cart and you can only get replacement styli from Miniot though.

  24. Yeah I really liked the look of the Two Valve mk2. If I was actually dj’ing I’d get one of these wanky mixers to use.

  25. I posted this in the thread earlier, but I'll post it again. This guy was a pro player in the Overwatch League, so he's certainly good at video games. Check out how hard he finds beating this boss (she appears about 2 minutes in): - There are definitely times when I like games to be challenging, but this is just too much for me.

  29. I thought that myself years ago but die-hards ended that thought saying "it's just an on/off". Even in TTM is just a dot... I'm that "less is more" guy which barely can do transformers (on time) who is called "smooth" by my 3ple-click-flare (off time) fellas ... 😕 Well you made me remember the Beatfader...

  30. Hey man! That's the thing, it's definitely not *necessary* at all. I was visiting a friend and he was showing me some DIY thing he was building with 60mm faders and asked if I've tried that for scratch-based stuff and I was puzzled as to why not. Obviously most of the "action" happens in that 10mm range at the edge of it (trad or hamster), but it got me thinking about using "the rest" of the fader throw for more detailed control of other parameters. In my case I tend to do weird mappings with a DIY fader anyways, so it seemed like an interesting thing to explore. I will try cleaning/lubing an alps one, but was just curious if there was some off-the-shelf things to try too.

  31. I only had 56Kbps dial-up for quite a while, so it would take about 3 minutes per MB to download anything. I had to pay per-minute too, so it would be 3p per minute at peak times and 1p off-peak, on top of the phone line rental charges. The first time I got "broadband" it was 300Kbps, which got doubled to 600Kbps, which is about 450 times slower than what I have now, but at the time it was amazing. "PimpDawg", haha!

  32. going through some of these mixes to a kiwi bbq in the blazing sunshine here in auckland right now... i actually have Pawk Sqr4tch from the infamous days of UKHH / Snatchcon with me here in aoteraroa, new zealand, which also seems fitting to mention for any of you who are THAT old skool. lol (steve - im looking at you)

  33. Ah, nice one man! You should get a new freestyle scratch video out there! My health has been shit to be honest; slowly declining for years now, no matter what I try and do to make it better. I haven't used my decks in a loooong time; maybe a decade. Time just flies though - the last completed mix I made was 11 years ago, but it doesn't seem like that at all.
