BBFC to be in charge of policing online porn - more censorship and privacy issues

Because we obviously must "protect the children!!!!!!!!!" from the evils of porn, sites that host adult content will be forced to have age gates, but not just the "Are you over 18? Yes/No" type age gates that some websites already have. These age gates will be used to actually verify your age through a means that is yet to be determined.

There are numerous companies touting their ideas for how this could be achieved. Ideas range from forcing people to enter their credit card number, to forcing people to enter their mobile number and forcing phone companies to then verify a person's age, to having an app that you approve on Facebook which then has access to your personal data.

Websites that don't comply with these age gates will face sanctions. It doesn't matter if a site is not hosted in the UK, nor run by a UK-based company. If the website owner does not comply, the sanctions can include blocking access to the website in the same way that sites deemed to be guilty of breaching copyright laws are blocked here in the UK, and search engines being forced to remove the offending sites from search results.

DVers that don't support censorship and the idea of a database of their porn viewing habits being held by the government or some third party company can sign this petition: -

Certain types of porn were banned in the UK a couple of years ago. That includes porn that shows spanking, face sitting, or even female ejaculation, amongst a whole bunch of other sexual acts. We can't have moral standards declining here in good old blighty!

The problem with "obscenity", much like "hate speech", is, who says what is obscene and what isn't? Why can't I choose what kind of porn I want to watch? Why do I need some nanny state deciding "that's too obscene for your eyes, sonny!"?

I completely agree.

Strangely, I was reading about Japan yesterday (who have pretty weird moral codes)... I always thought it was so weird they blur dicks and vag but show tits and facials pretty much wherever. Even sell dirty panties out of vending machines all over. The thing I was reading tho is sort of unrelated but was interesting.. basically a sexual act is defined as only relating to dick in the vag. So only women can be raped and women can't rape women and men can't rape men. Also prostitution is illegal but that doesn't cover BJs or in the ass which is legal as a result of the wording. Super weird.

Here in the UK, a woman can't be tried for rape either. Rape is defined as: -

  • a man intentionally penetrates the vagina, mouth or anus of another person with his penis
  • the person does not consent to the penetration
  • the man does not reasonably believe that the person has given consent
So men and women can be victims of rape, but only men can commit a rape. A woman can be prosecuted for accessory to rape if she helps a man to commit one, but if a woman was to drug you and you come round to find her on top of you riding you, that's sexual assault in the eyes of UK law, not rape.
