williepee
The price is absurd, I think his asking price was retail back in the day
Nejo
One for sale popped up in France this month. I have no idea of the condition. https://fr.audiofanzine.com/produit-dj-divers/vestax/VRX-2000-Vinyl-Recorder/petites-annonces/i.1384570.html

DJ Rock Well
That looks a bit too light and portable for C&P records!
Guest Symatic
the dudes gone in tho.... he started making these modded technics SP-10 turntables and developed really solid locking engineering for the whole thing. looks like he went balls-out and built a whole thing from scratch. 10k for a lathe is actually not crazy - the "proper" ones like neumeann and scully are 10's of thousands even without the whole studio you attache them to. theres been a few people designing their own and developing new cutting heads, but this guy has taken his time and developed this properly by the looks of it. DJ Rock Well
If you've got the bread and it legit works as promised, I can believe it's a sensible option. Perhaps a bit like the Vestax one promised to be, but I seriously doubt it ever was.
Guest Symatic
the vestax one just looks bad.... and from what i've heard they all had their own issues, like it was a bit of a work in progress so no two units were exactly the same.... some of the main things you need to have is a stable base, isolation and silent operation.... vestax were never good for any of those things - they were good at making needles stick to grooves at all costs and experimenting and listening to the crazy requests of scratch DJs.their motors aren't great at being rumble-free either, theyre good at going mad speeds and stuff. Technics had the motors down, and the REALLY nice lathes have technics sp-02 motor installed, which is like a 1200 motor but with way more poles and power and really expensively engineered, designed specifically for lathes. technics motor engineering and their good isolation is probably why modified technics were chosen as the basis for the Souri T560 'vinylrecorder' lathes which are the backbone of todays lathe-cut record culture. its also why Sillitoe based his original designs on the technics sp-10 turntable, which is kinda of a more audiophile/broadcast spec technics deck. wanna read some nerdery about technics stuff? https://www.kabusa.com/1200agon.htm I dunno what sillitoe is using for a motor now, but it'll no doubt be good and i believe he's done the homework to know the hows and the whys so he gets good results.... the sillitoe lathe looks like it does 14" plates too, so you can do professional laquer masters on it.
DJ Rock Well
Interesting stuff mate. And no, the words 'isolation' and 'Vestax' do not belong in the same sentence!
