Steam cleaner application for PC

When you download a game from Steam, it usually always downloads some redistributable packages at the same time - the Games for Windows Live installer, DirectX etc. - the sort of stuff that runs the first time you play the game. This stuff sits on your hard drive taking up space needlessly and if you have a large games collection, it can occupy several GB of space.

Here's a free app that searches for those packages and deletes them: -

Before you delete the redistributable packages that come with a game, make sure you've launched the game at least once so that any packages that are required for the game to run will install. Even if you make a mistake and delete them before running the game at least once and the game then won't run, you can always re-download the packages using Steam's "verify integrity of game cache" option.

In my case, it deleted nearly 5½ GB of unnecessary files from my hard drive.
