The ProA needs 15v DC, the VCA needs 14v AC.

I can't find anyone selling 14v AC power supplies, but farnell and RS sell 15v ones that'll be fine.

well... so far i've tried a bunch of PSU's, but the PMC 06 VCA definately has a funny sized socket. i think it's 6.3mm outside measurement and 3mm pin measurement

I just wanna be sure it's AC output not DC, or doesnt it matter? the 06 Pro VCA takes AC......

That'll likely be a switched DC supply, it's too small to have a transformer in it. That won't work for a VCA, but will be fine for a ProA.

so I just found out that despite being called an "AC-14" most of the power supplies that came with the VCA series were actually 12V AC. I'm guessing this is to account for differences in regional mains supplies (can be anything from 210-240 across europe).

This'll do ya : http://uk.farnell.com/ideal-power/77db-06-12m/adaptor-uk-12v-0-5a-multiplg/dp/2112032
