It looks like Desire owners (i.e. me!) will be getting it next week, hopefully: -

I don't see where the GamesMaster gets the power to judge. Normally it's like a score to decide who's won, but you're asking him to make an aesthetic value judgement about something and I don't think that's within his power to do so. I don't think he was right at all. He's not a Palme d'Or judge is he? He's just Patrick Moore in a hat.

I got another upgrade from T-Mobile today. I found out that if you buy your phone via a third party, that they limit you to 1 GB of data transfer per month, despite it saying 3 GB for "all Android phones" in their T&C and not "all Android phones bought direct from T-Mobile". After going back and forth with the customer service rep who insisted I would have to pay £5 extra per month, I said that I was only calling because on AndroidForums.com, lots of people who bought their phones from Mobile Phones Direct had called T-Mobile and were switched to the 3 GB tier for free, at which point she caved in and upgraded me for free which also entitled me to another "bolt on" (or whatever they're called) so I went with unlimited texts. The download speed also increased dramatically, so I guess they're capping the speed of people on the 1 GB tier. It's worth phoning up and checking to see which tier you're on, especially if you're getting slow download speeds, then just stand your grand until the CS rep gives in. :d

You two managed to find any good music apps yet?

Also do you find the music player any good? I find it hard to move around large files such as mixes because you can only really touch the progress bar which is pretty clumsy

Can you post that number please Steve, I imagine mine when it arrives is going to be capped too...

"Unlimited" Internet is never unlimited mate, no matter what any provider says, but if you want to call T-Mobile just dial 150 from your phone (when you get it).

This has now been confirmed by HTC. Anyone in Europe with a Desire that isn't locked to a particular carrier will get the update this weekend. Those with locked phones will have to wait for their carriers to customise the OS (i.e. fuck it up with shitty branding), and there's no ETA for that at the moment (HTC say it will be in "several week's time").

As well as the new additions and improvements that 2.2 brings, HTC are adding some features of their own to Sense: -

720p video recording
iTunes syncing
Enhanced HTC caller ID (whatever that means)
HTC App Share widget (allows you to share apps with friends via text, email or Twitter)
An improved multi-language keyboard

The update won't delete any of the data on your phone and HTC recommend that you download it via Wi-Fi, mainly to decrease the chance of you incurring data charges although that's obviously dependent on your plan.

Has yours turned up yet, Jon?

It'll be delivered over the air, so either via wi-fi (recommended) or the phone's Internet connection. It'll probably be on HTC's site too. If you go into Settings - About Phone - System Software Updates you can check a box there to automatically check for updates or do a manual check.

I updated at the weekend and all went well. You'll need 50 MB free in the phone's internal memory. It doesn't tell you this before you start the update - only when it's part way through trying to install - so best to check before you begin.

Some of the changes people have noticed so far: -

For anyone with a Vodafone branded Desire, they've just rolled out an update, but it is not Android 2.2. It's a shitty update that adds loads of branding to the phone (one of the reasons why I bought one that's not network-locked!).

EDIT - Vodafone customers are not happy: -

Quote

Rubbish update - it takes longer to boot now - and indeed some branding all over the place.

Gaaaaaah! the HTC logo on the bootscreen has been replaced with a VF orb!

There's a load of bloatware apps:
360 Updates
Music Shop
Shop
Web

* update, none of those above work, complaining of no network connectivity.
Internet homepage changed to VF
Loads of bookmarks added (My Web, eBay, Flirtomatic, Lottery, BBC Sport, MySpace, Sky Sports, Match.com etc etc .....:
Messages now displays number of messages against each contact.

VF! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!?????

Way to go vodafone

What a great way to get everybody to download all your ######

And a brilliant way to ###### off all your customers.

please post instructions on how to rollback this ######

Etc. etc. etc.

I'm not sure if mine is branded - there's an 02 splash when I turn it on but no other obvious shiznit.

Not got an update yet though...

If you've got an operator splash screen, then it's branded. Ah well, at least you're not on Vodafone!
