Icaros (get thumbnails for more audio/video files in Windows)

If you choose thumbnail view in Windows, then it will display thumbnails for all of your audio/video files. One problem with this is that not all file types are supported, for example, MKV and FLAC files won't display thumbnails. This small, free app allows you to view thumbnails for all kinds of file types that aren't usually supported, such as MKV, FLV, FLAC, OGG and others. It can also automatically create thumbnails from embedded artwork in the files.

It's dead easy to use. Install it, fire it up, and you get this screen: -

Check off the boxes next to the file types you want thumbnails for. The offset setting allows you to choose how far into the video file the thumbnail is generated as obviously, many videos will start with a black screen and you don't want a plain black thumbnail. 10% works fine.

There's also an advanced screen with a couple more options: -

Once you've chosen the options you want, hit "Activate Icaros" and that's it - thumbnails will then appear in folders for the file types you selected. Icaros does not need to be running all the time and thumbnails will continue working until you launch Icaros again and deactivate it.

Download it for free here: -
