That ad's funny, "You don't have to fully engage with the real world ever again!" <Cuts to man ignoring dog he's taken out for a walk>

I'm pretty excited about it. I read something like 500+ third party games already in the works. My hope tho is the price is decent and the battery robust.

I wasn't that impressed with it.

The beauty of Nintendo's handhelds up to now is the long battery life, plus the fact that they have clamshell designs, so they're easy to fold up and put in a pocket and the screens are protected. Obviously battery life remains to be seen, but Nintendo can't work magic. If it's a powerful system (for a handheld), the battery life will suck, especially given the size of that screen, and it's a big looking beast that doesn't fold in half. Hardly pocket sized.

As a home console it will underperform and have the same issues Nintendo consoles always have. Shit online. "Must protect the children!!!!" attitude to chat and messaging. Likely 720p games in an era where 4K TVs are just starting to take off.

As a media player it might be cool, but so is my phone.

I can't see anyone ever going outside and playing head to head games like in the video, lol.

So basically you get a powerful, big handheld without a clamshell design with potentially mediocre battery life, but a "console-like" experience, i.e. a Vita (which bombed). Combined with that, you get a home console experience that will likely compare to the Wii-U (which bombed).

4 bags of shite out of 5.

^^Agree. What would be the point of just another generic console when you already have two. Nice to see they always are pushing the envelope. And IMO doing a very good job of it.

FLOL, Steve is such a belligerent Nintendo hater!

2DS isnt' clamshell and the original DS and 3DS are hardly pocket sized. The only truly pocket sized one was the Micro and that wasn't clamshell either. Kinda funny that the screen size is one of your complaints when small screen size was the big complaint most people had with the DS. Guess you can't please everyone.

I definitely can see people playing it outside or in a room with friends. But then again I have kids that are the perfect market for this sort of thing. Take it to school. Bust it out at recess. Brilliant to have the 2 per screen play option and thus 4 person battle off 2 systems like in the teaser--kids are gonna love that. Me, I just want something fun to play on the shitter or while my wife is watching stupid Downton Abbey.

The Vita bombed because it was unoriginal, had shit battery, and was basically shit versions of the exact games on PS. WiiU bombed because of horrible marketing. Poor decision to piggy back the Wii name. Many people thought it was just a version of the Wii system not an entirely new system. Also the price was too high.

Personally, I think 780p is fine. Most games upscale anyways. Nintendo games stylistically dont' need to be 4k and in fact some of their most iconic games were getting everything they could out of a limited system. It's like using a old sampler instead of Pro Tools. Also the time and money involved to make 4k games is going to eventually be a problem and limit the titles available at some point. It's already happening really. I think the Switch library will be robust because they are combining their lines and making more with less. It's good sense to me. Streamline the process.

Battery could be an issue with Switch but I figure Nintendo will figure out a way. They always do. They hands down make the highest quality and most original gaming products. No it's not a PS4/Xbone clone and thank god for that.

I'm wondering if it's a touch screen, if the break out controllers are motion sensitive and if there will be VR goggles.

Nintendo hasn't really interested me for a long time either, not since the n64 days, but my nephews have access to pretty much every console under the sun yet always go back to their Wii, and you couldn't get them off it when they first came out, I guess they do well enough from their real target audience

Yeah man, I moved away from Nintendo with the Game Cube. Came back somewhat with the DS and Wii... for me tho, I've increasingly been moving away from "adult" games and back to stuff that's just fun. The tipping point was a couple years ago when I got super pissed off playing COD... ended up quitting PS3 for a year and only played Minecraft. And it was awesome. Seems like all I do is pay for content for a game that's just like the last one and then only get angry when I play. It largely stopped being fun for me. Nintendo is still fun tho. Nintendo still makes me go WOAH.
