The DV Epic Soundtracks Thread

Once upon time in the west in a neglected corner of the GOAT Breaks and Beats thread someone or other suggested doing a soundtracks thread but never actually got around to starting one

Now im not going to start naming any names but Rock Well was obviously too busy watching episodes of Game of Thrones and reading the set menu options for the local Chinese takeaway and no matter how much studying of the telephone directory i did i couldn't find one single person anywhere who has the name of Mr J Clockwork that i could call and speak with about my complaints...

So its been left to myself to start another thread that only 5 people will probably contribute to for about the next fortnight or so....

Ive picked up quite a few records over the years of this guy Charles Bernstein's stuff but im pretty sure i havent seen any of the actual films he's scored the music for yet..

Joes post has reminded me that i've never actually heard the Barberella soundtrack Lp before

so i'll definitely have to give that one a listen at some point..

Nice choice with the Marvin Gaye there too..

Thomas Newman scored the theme for this one

one from Lalo Schifrin

Jay Chattaway from 1980

And a very nice groove by The Upstroke band from the 70's porn film 'The Travelling Salesman'

These are by The Sex-O-Rama Band.. theres a few 70s porn soundtracks that are pretty cool in my opinion and a surprisingly good source for digging and sampling purposes at times

and Gerald Sampler (cool surname) from 1978

^^^Nice choices!

Yeah Hogin Machine, that's a dope track with a cool drum break too.

This is a pretty good one 'Dolemite' from 1975 by Rudy Ray Moore.

Not a request for this particular record but I'd love to see something like this getting selected for a DV beat battle sample challenge at some point in the future-if our man Rock Well would kindly oblige us.These sort of albums are always ripe for some serious sample plundering bizness!

Don't think that I was a forum member when The Lost Man soundtrack was the challenge (nice record though)..I'm pretty sure the first one for me was the Police Story lp although I only voted in that particular battle and didn't actually take part.

The James Brown, Black Caesar one was cool though obviously!

I dunno,I've just got a thing for those old Blaxplotation lp's I guess plus there's loads of them that I've never got round to sampling that I probably should have by now !

Oh I forget you weren't here the whole time mate!

Hehe- yeah I was still on a couple of Northern Soul forums back then, chucking too many 'Purple Lizzies' at old records on the sort of labels like Kent ,Okeh and Diamond.

I love Northern Soul but it's fucking crazy trying to buy the tunes on vinyl nowadays. The majority of original copies are beyond the reach of most ordinary collectors now unfortunately unless you get extremely lucky while digging..even some of the bootlegs and reissues I've seen lately are £50 + for a 45 rpm single .

I'm glad I joined DV and started sampling shit again tbh..It's saved me a bloody fortune I reckon !
