  1. What’s funny is that I think Noize should have won the year Raida took it, and I liked Raida better on the year when Noize won lol. In any case: both dope af legends with a DMC world chip to their names.
  2. No boos here. I’ll go a step further and say I would have rated him over Craze that year too. Enjoyed the hell out of Craze, but P was just the dude at that point in time.
  3. I think that - like you said - material improvement comes mostly from focused and deliberate practice. As far as innate ability: I think that what I used to consider an innate ability I had, was really just personal drive, love for what I was doing, and the influence of those that came before me.
  4. Made this vid you might enjoy fuckin with! Its an interactive guided scratch session: a Q&A cutting video where we also throw out ideas and themes for you to focus on when its your turn to scratch. Hope it helps spark some variety/concepts you might not practice otherwise! 👊
  5. Well, he said 2019. But apparently he’s been saying “this year” for years, so... who knows haha
  6. I had him as a guest interview on my new radio show CUTITUP, and I told him about that one thread on here where you guys list all the samples you've identified from Phantazmagorea, haha. We also talked about his recording process, guest DJs featured on his upcoming album, a trick that Q-Bert shared with him for recovering from scratch fuckups on stage, and a bunch of other stuff. The episode with his interview aired on Dash Radio earlier tonight, and is now archived in two parts on Mixcloud. You can listen to it here: https://www.mixcloud.com/CUTITUP/ Enjoy!
  7. Yo! Excited to try out that new invention of yours! Looks awesome!
  8. Hey folks, I think some of the barriers to entry for people who might otherwise get into scratching have traditionally been equipment cost and lack of understanding regarding gear requirements. So I made a little guide to show people how they can get started at scratching by only spending $155 or so in equipment costs. Feel free to share with anyone who might find it useful ✌️ https://www.skratchsnobs.com/start-skratching-now
  9. Thank you Sy and Shimmer for checking it out! 🙏
  10. Hey DVers, I've made an album of my instrumental beats and cutting, called "Waterview Ways," under the artist name Mike C Killin It. The album is available now for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Amazon, and all the major digital outlets. Anyone can also bump it for free on YouTube (link below). I think of it as an album of beats influenced by DJ Shadow, portioned in small servings like Donuts, with skratch composition inspired by D-Styles and sampled skratch hooks like DJ Premier's. The beats are all sample-based, augmented with some synths and basslines and stuff here and there. As for the cutting: I tried to focus on composition and simplicity, and creating actual composed music (as opposed to someone just doing endless freestyle solo cutting over a looper). If this sounds like your kind of thing, check it out and enjoy! ✌ Play the album on Youtube
  11. What up, Part 2 has been posted as well. Enjoy!
  12. Obviously a legendary DJ, but also a really sharp guy. We got to sit down and talk about DJing and a lot more. Watch it on the Beat Junkies YouTube channel:
