Steve
This is a useful application for Windows users. What it does is allow you to run programs in a sandbox, i.e. the application you run is essentially trapped in a virtual area of your hard drive. This is useful for a couple of reasons. If you download an application from a source that you don't trust, you can choose to run it sandboxed. If it turns out that it's malware, the malware payload will still activate but it will be trapped in the sandbox too. When you empty the sandbox, the malware payload is gone and your machine is completely unaffected. You can also run your web browser sandboxed, so your browsing history, cookies, temp files etc. will be stored in the sandbox which can be emptied at any time. It's free for personal use, although after a while it presents you with a nag screen asking you to pay for a license, but you can still continue using it for free. A license is only £15 a year if you want to pay. The paid for version allows you to run multiple sandboxes at once, but otherwise it's pretty much the same as the free version. http://www.sandboxie.com
